Ygrec23,

Okay, I'm going to try to make the clouds smaller. I'll let you know how I do it.

But...I tried to do what you did with the VM, add an image, like I did on the forum post and all that showed was the link again, even though I did exactly what I did on posting an image to the forum. sooooooo, I'm going back there and see if I can see the words: "allow scripted directions" after I hit the insert image. Did you hit yes, the time it worked?

I'll be back and let you know what I discover.

When you guys have it figured out, please leave instructions. I have been unable/unwilling to follow what you are doing.

Sure. But (in my opinion) we're FAR from having it figured out as yet! Take care.

If there are any lurkers out there laughing uproariously at our various attempts but at the same time knowing what we SHOULD be doing, be so kind as to chime in here and let us know what we OUGHT to be doing! Take care.

as far as i can tell, there are 4 ways to get a pic into PC:

1) from HardDrive~ Library: Photos,,, Properties (copy http://),,, back to PC (Profile Page or Forum Post site); open little yellow box, DELETE existing blue http://,,,, COPY , send, post, save, whatever.

2) from PC Album~ Browse: select from computer library; click UPLOAD... this will save to your PC ALBUM; then you can use the bar at the bottom of that page to SEND TO: select other member groups (ONLY: this will not work for anything but member groups).

3) from PC Album to Profile Pages or Forum Sites: your computer MUST have saved the PROPERTIES information (http://) and transferred it to PC Album~! IF it has, you click on the pic and copy the ADDRESS and put it in the little yellow box (delete the existing http://) and send, post or save.

4) from a web site~ you MUST use public use pics, or credit the owner (copyright info); this is the easiest, i think,,,, you just click on a pic and copy it's Address info (http://), then paste that in the little yellow box (delete the existing blue http://),,, enter, post, save,, etc.

hope all this works for you, and is more true than not~! please try it and correct me, we'll get this in as a sticky note , maybe,,

I cannot believe that you can put a picture into anywhere on PC if it is only on your hard drive. In fact, it has no URL while it is there, since it is not on the Internet. In other words, I do not understand this recipe.

Uploading Picture From Own Computer to Post

Pachy, you uploaded this, presumably from your hard drive? It now has an url anyone can use. You can do the same if you upload it into a PC photo album you create. Yes, it has to be put onto PC from your hard drive first, but then PC gives it an URL.

Well, Gus, when I go looking into the "Properties" of a picture in a library on my hard drive (I'm running Windows 7 on a PC) I DON'T get an http location. All I get is something like this: "C:\Users\Public\Pictures\Photos\Animals" And that's from "Properties."
So your instructions on this kind of transfer don't work for me.

Any idea how to resize an image AFTER it's inserted into (a) a visitor message, (b) a private message, or (c) onto a profile page?

Yes, it has to be on PC or some other server before you can make it appear in a post here. Usually one's own hard drive is not an Internet server.

No, one's own hard drive is not a server but you can use PC as your server and then post it from here to here :-) But I think most people use TinyPic http://tinypic.com/ or Photobucket or something like that.

Okay. Thanks to all your help I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that we've learned how to insert images into vm's, pm's, and posts. What we HAVEN'T learned to do (or even whether it's possible) is to resize images AFTER they've been inserted in a vm, pm or post. Yes, after insertion when I click on the image I do get the little square handles around the image. But when I click on them and try to tug the image and make it bigger, nothing happens. Does anyone know whether this has anything to do with one's browser internet settings? Anything to do with the way PC is set up? Why WOULDN'T one be able to change the size of an image on PC? Why would the image size handles appear, which they do, if one weren't supposed to be able to change the size of an image? Hmmmm.
Well, take care.

P.S. I have found out that one can shorten the process of image insertion by going into the browser's "Tools" area, clicking on "Internet Options," then on "Security," then on "Custom Level," and then enabling anything that has to do with scripting. Obviously only one single change should really be necessary, but since I don't know WHICH change is key I have to change everything to do with scripting. I'm running IE9. I do not know whether mac-users will have a similar thing but they may. Or any other browser. What this readjustment does is as follows: without the readjustment, when you click on the "insert image" button on PC, up comes a dialog box at the bottom of the page asking you if you want to permit scripted windows. If you click yes and then look for the insertion box at the top of the page, it isn't there. I've always had to click on "insert image" AGAIN and THEN insert the image location. If you change your settings, the insertion box comes up immediately and you can insert your image location then. Just a shortcut.

I have no idea what a "scripted window" is.

I have no problems uploading pictures from my Mac:

Uploading Picture From Own Computer to Post

But I don't know about resizing them once they are already on PC.

I don't think you can change the size of the image on PC because the location is not "yours" to control. On my websites, I own the URL of, I can do whatever I want with my stuff but once you upload it to PC, it's on the PC space so controlled by whatever controls they or their software have in place, not generic Web controls.

Thank you, Perna. You know a lot more than I do about these things. So, I take it that if I want to change the size of an image I have to do it on my own computer and then upload it to one of my albums and from there paste it into a vm, pm, post or sig? I think that's what you're saying but I just want to make sure.

Take care!

I'm not even sure that will make it display the way you want. Websites pay for the "room"/space that is used and how it is used, in addition to what additional tricks the host allows.

By "how" I am referring to "bandwidth". When you post a picture from one place to another, let's use one of my sites as an example:

Code:
http://mysharingspaceonline.com/angeldevil.jpg
gets you:

Uploading Picture From Own Computer to Post

I am posting that picture from mysharingspace.com on here but, you are looking at it AT mysharingspace; it's kind of a "reflection" if you will. Everyone here at PC is actually using my bandwidth that I paid for when I bought mysharingspace.com from GoDaddy. Notice the different prices/sizes of space/bandwidth one can buy.

http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-h...2001ab&ci=8971

If you have a lot of traffic to your site (and your looking at my picture here on PC is actually looking at the picture on my site because it is there, not here, so the site gets credited for bandwidth use, not PC) sometimes web hosts will charge more or make you have a bigger site. That is why free web hosts will often not let you link your pictures from their site to somewhere else, one will get the red X, they don't want to be paying for your posting your stuff all over the web for free.

PC doesn't have that problem, because it has its own servers. It does not just own the site, it owns the hosting, the space itself and can do whatever it likes. However, how many/much server space it owns is limited; server space and setup costs money too:

http://www.rackspace.com/managed_hos...ed_servers.php

But what happens on PC, depends on its programmers and how the software is written. It could be "simple" and just accept what you upload and, you're done, or it could let you mess with it; look at the controls for customizing your profile:

http://forums.psychcentral.com/profile.php?do=customize

I don't know/think that what you do with pictures is given that much control. When you upload a picture, it might just want it at a certain size (look at avatars and their control size) and no matter what you do with it on your computer, the PC software will do its own thing, show it at a size it wants.

Since I'm not using PC as my "host" for my picture, the PC software often doesn't care what size I make something because it doesn't really have anything to do with them. Yes, they prefer I don't post something too big, because it skews people looking at it, and can make the PC software go to extremes to display it at all and distort other things, but since it's somewhere else, they generally don't care.

This is a screen capture for the place of the url: (dang, I resized it before I put it up and but it's huge Maybe a person who works here resize it. I think it really helps to see instructions of 'how to do things' put up as images, like this but maybe a running process for each location one would be allowed to put images like: PM's, VM's, Forum, etc)

Well, it seems - after everyone has had their say - that you CAN'T change the size of an image once it's here on PC AND inserted in a VM, PM, personal page or sig. HOWEVER, as I have found out, IF you have an image in an album on PC, and IF the real size of that picture is DIFFERENT from what shows on an album page (an album "page" being a page with several different images shown together), you CAN insert different sizes of images depending on whether you're using (a) the image from the album page, or (b) the image from the SOLO page on which the image shows up alone when you click on it on the album page. You know! The ENLARGED image that shows up when you click on the smaller one! So, EVEN HERE ON PC, you have a SIZE CHOICE. Smaller, from the album page, larger, from the page that appears when you click on the image in the album page. CAPISCE?

Are we ready for prime time yet? Are we finished with New Haven and ready for Broadway? Shall we boil all this down to something less than the size of Aristotle's complete works and post it in a sticky? Or is there a further distance to go? Something to add? Something to tweak? Your comments would be most appreciated. Take care.
