Hello everyone ...

Just a very brief question here regarding an issue that I am experiencing as I try to leave comments on other user's profiles / photo albums / etc.

I've noticed several times now that following my submission of a comment (of which I will go back to in order to review), that I receive extraneous secondary annotations (depicted below within the " " quotation marks) that consist of:

01. Whenever I add more than one space or if I attempt to start a new paragraph (i.e. hitting "enter"), it shows " <br> ".

02. If I select a specific colour for my fonts, such as Dark Slate Blue, it shows: " <font color="DarkSlateBlue"> ".

03. If I choose a specific font size, such as size 2, it shows:
" <font size="2" ".

For example, let's say that I enter the following comment into a user's comment section below an image in their gallery:

Nice. A very serene scene.

It was composed / submitted using an Arial font, Size 2 height, BOLD typeface, and a Dark Blue colour for the text.

Now, having submitted said comment as shown above, this is the version that is then displayed:

<font color="DarkSlateBlue"><b><font size="2" face="Arial">Nice. A very serene scene.</font></b></font><br>

How can I go about avoiding / correcting this issue, and is it due to something in my Internet browser (I am using the latest edition of Firefox 3.6.13) or is it somehow related to my personal settings here on the Psych Central Forums?

Any constructive feedback would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your time and imput.

Take care,

What you're describing is HTML code. Why it's visible to you, I don't know offhand. I've never had it come up like that with any of the browsers I've used.

[quote=vertebrae;1668811]Hello everyone ...

I notice some information under Edit Options when I clicked on my own name (where it says "Welcome IceCreamKid") and then went to Settings & Options and then clicked on "Edit Options" Here is what it said:
"When posting messages to the forums or other members, there are three interface types available to you. The simplest of these is a simple text box, while the last is a fully-fledged WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to format your text as you want it and see the results immediately.

Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type."

It sounds like you have something set to display HTML. And I also noticed on my own monitor this, in the lower left hand corner, a little box that tells me what I am allowed to do on the site, and the last line says: HTML code is OFF.
I think if it can be "off" then it can also be 'on'. So you might try looking at all of your settings.

FoolZero and IceCreamKid ...

Thanks for your feedback. I am going to tweak the WYSIWYG editor to the "Basic Editor - A Simple Text Box" setting and see what transpires.

I'll let you know if I continue to have the issues as described at the start of my thread here.

Take care,

I think you're on the right track with that. I like either of the text-and-tags editors better than WYSIWYG, myself, because they seem to give me better control.

The only differences between "Basic Editor - A Simple Text Box" and "Standard Editor -- Extra formatting controls" are that you get a bigger text box (about 12 lines instead of 5) and a bigger assortment of formatting controls. What you see in the text box is exactly the same in either mode: the text you've typed in, along with whatever BB Code tags you've added to it. You can upgrade from the little box to the big one on the fly with "Go Advanced" and check the results of all your tags by clicking "Preview Post".

Oh, and the Issues / Difficulty submitting comments in user's albums. button (in the top right corner of each kind of editor) lets you toggle in and out of WYSIWYG mode. Even the "Simple Text Box" offers that.

Please do let us know if changing to one of the other editor modes clears up the stray-HTML problem for you.
