You can hit the Reply button and in the message box that comes up, just remove the stuff that you don't want to quote.

If you notice in that reply box, every quote begins with the "code" bracket-quote-bracket and ends with the "code" bracket-/quote-bracket, so you can put that in around some text you want to quote manually if you can't find an easier way to do it.

No mini quote that I find. If it's a quote that's not too large, like above, hit the quote button at the bottom of the post, open a reply window, and then edit out what you don't want. (It will automatically be placed it into the reply text window for you to edit.) Be sure to keep the brackets and the quote /quote words inside.

You can also run your cursor over the part that you want, highlighting it, then copy and paste it into your reply window. (To highlight with a mouse, place the blinking cursor at the front of what you wish to quote, and then click and hold down the left mouse button moving it over the text you want. )

After you have only the text you wish... you have 2 options of making it look like the quote it is:

Up top with the font, size, color, etc choices you'll see this how do you do a mini quotethat will place quotes around your highlighted text.

OR You can also manually add those quote words and brackets (shown here with spaces [ quote ] text here [ /quote ] .

Or, you can do all this directly; you can manually type what quote you want, and type the quotes brackets around it.

Let me know if you need hand holding on this... it's worth knowing how

PS You still have to make a reply of your own, at least 10 letters worth, for the server to accept it.

You can also use this square
how do you do a mini quote

and this appears - you place the copied words in between the above and then when you post it, it appears separate. There's different ways but this is easier than deleting what you don't want.

I used to do that but the only thing is then you don't get the name of the person (for some reason?)

Yes that's true so you would have to use the other quote methods.

For anyone who's interested, here's a little more about technical details like that: Quoting from a quote.

By the way, I find it much easier to see what I'm doing if I use the text editor rather than the WYSIWYG one. You can toggle between them with the how do you do a mini quote button. If you need to see the description of a BB Code tag, they're here.
Thanks for this!

actually not specific enough
I tried with the the sign that you and Lynn suggested and I can't get it to work
additional insight would help and be appreciated

it is however fairly easy to click on the reply button of a message and delete stuff while leaving the bracket stuff in

I honestly would like to be able to do what you are talking about. It is a boost to the ego to get this stuff figured out and have more options as opposed to being handicapped by technology

thanks for your postings

ok so when you write a line

you can highlight it it first

then with the highlight still on there,

you go and click on the little quote icon

and then two things will pop up on either side of the text [QUOTE] /[QUOTE]

but they shouldnt be side by side they should be like bookends around the highlighted part

like this [QUOTE] blablablabla / [QUOTE]

and then the result would be that you hit "post quick reply" and it looks like this

Quote:
blablablabla
hope that works
