Hiya!
I think we should be able to follow others posts. Like when my friends post I would like to be notified so I can respond, especially when they are presenting a need that they may not be expressing in chat. Thanks, Tara |

Yeah, we used at least to be able to search for people's names, did that disappear? Did I abuse it? Is it ALL MY FAULT??? Is the name weeBcrazee already in use or can I change to it?
Is THAT what friends are for??? |

We can search for people's names. Just click on the advanced search link right underneath the search box at the top. Then input their name in the column on the top right.
Love and hugs, Tara |

Thanks Tara, hope I didn't sound flippant. I should have mentioned I am usually on mobile view and the search on names stopped working there. Sorry to put you to the trouble but thanks for the info for when I am on a full computer.

i would like this too, but perhaps just for new threads created by people i nominated (i probably wouldn't want to be notified of every single post they made).

We can easily identify and read threads new to us and then, if they are by someone we want to follow, we can use the thread tools to "follow this thread"? I think trying to get software to pick and choose people and then pick and choose among their threads might be a bit too complicated/personal to do.

When you make a post or answer a post subscribe to the thread, you will get a notice of posts. Under quick links there is a subscribed threads that you can click on. I hope this helps.

i guess the point i was trying to make was that sometimes people i care about post in forums i dont usually read therefore i dont see their posts. i was trying to say that if it was at all possible it would be pretty neat to be notified when specified people start a new thread. just putting it out there on the doc john wishlist.

The workaround that I use is to bookmark the "Find More Posts by _____" link for everyone whose posts I may want to follow. I believe the Internet Explorer term is "Add to Favorites".
It's not a one-step process, unfortunately. If you actually click on the "Find More Posts" link and try to bookmark the search results page that comes up, you'll find it has a short shelf life. What I do is copy the URL of the "Find More Posts" link to my clipboard, bookmark whatever page I found it on, find the bookmark I just created, right-click on it, and choose Properties. I make sure the bookmark title says what I want it to ("Posts by _____"), then tab down to the URL field of the bookmark and paste in the URL that I saved to the clipboard earlier. The procedures for Internet Explorer and Apple may or may not be similar to this; I've never tried working with bookmarks/favorites in either one. The kind of URL that's only temporary and not worth bookmarking looks like this: http://forums.psychcentral.com/search.php?searchid=3456789The kind of URL that you want to end up with in your bookmark looks like this: http://forums.psychcentral.com/search.php?do=finduser&u=987654Both of the above examples use made-up numbers, by the way. |
