Someone's posting how great this site is, encouraged me to raise minor accessibility issues. I hope you are not angry that I post this. The main accessibility problem that I can think of now, that I encounter with my braille display/screen reader, is that the post boxes for new messages and replies are in a frame. This way, my program won't let me post in the post box without being in something called "forms mode", and I can't get in forms mode without going to aan editing field or checkbox first - it won't go in that mode from within the frame. Also, I can't start new paragraphs without the program going out of forms mode again, so I have to go to another field again and get back into forms mode. This is why I generally post one-paragraph posts. I can work around this to some extent, but it is a little annoying. The solution would be to have the post box as an editing field rather than a frame. Is there any way to make this possible, maybe optionally? I don't want to be an inconvenience, I just want to make suggestions for making this site as accessible as possible. If you don't mind, I'll try to check this site for accessibility issues and post them in this thread if I find them. I encourage the technical staff of this board to make the site as open to people with all kinds of disabilities as possible. Again, I don't hope I'm a nuisance by pointing this out.

There are others of us who, while we don't personally need special facilities to utilize PC, fully understand and support users like Astridetal who do. In this day and age, and particularly on websites like PC, every effort really ought to be made to accomodate their difficulties. Not that I'm not sure both admins and mods aren't entirely committed to accomodation. I am sure that you are. But I would just like to post this in support of Astridetal and indicate to you that there are many other PC members out here who fully support her. And as soon as possible, too. Take care!

in the meantime...
Can you have a word processor open at the same time, and maybe type your full reply in that, then cut and paste it to the area for posting it up? IDK ![]() Sometimes when members have trouble with dropping off the site while posting a long reply, thus losing it, they use their computer's work processor. :hug;

A couple of times I've even come back online after a power outage and been able to retrieve the post I'd been writing. If I find myself looking at a blank text box, what will sometimes bring my post back good as new is clicking the Edit > Undo command. I don't know which browsers have this feature. My old Netscape certainly didn't. ![]() |

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "in a frame," and since I don't have access to your screen reader, it would be difficult for us to troubleshoot the issue further. The forums do make use of AJAX for the quick reply box, which may be the problem. However, it is integral to how the forums work and cannot be turned off.
I'm not sure if this is a problem regardless of whether you're using the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the thread, or also when you click on a "Reply" button to a specific post. It may be that if you only use the Reply button, the issue may not be present? Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance with this issue. DocJohn
