I don't see any other posts about POD but don't see another place to post.

I've been running the script for years and love it. Recently I noticed a spike in 404 errors and finally realized the script no longer works. I updated to v1.95 and even replaced with a new podvars.pm

All necessary modules are installed, permissions are 755.

Nothing works Personal Open Directory: right place for help?

All I get is the following on any attempt to run the script.

POD encountered the following error while trying to run: 500 Can't connect to dmoz.org:80 (connect: timeout) Attempted retrieval URL: http://dmoz.org

A google search shows about 22,000 results with the same, so I guess I'm not alone.

Anyone know a fix? It seems that beebware.com still works so it can't be totally dead.

Thanks!!

Depends on your server's connectivity, I suspect. Nothing's changed at Dmoz, and the demo version still works here:

http://psychcentral.com/cgi-bin/pod2.cgi

One way to test this is to log into your server via telnet or SSH and run:

lynx http://dmoz.org

If that pulls up a page, then I'm not sure what's the problem. If it doesn't (if it times out), then the problem is connectivity between your server and Dmoz.

Generally POD is not really supported any longer, unless Dmoz changes something to seriously break it.

Thanks John! While I thought it was a general script problem, you are right - I cannot access dmoz.org from inside the shell! I'm taking the issue to my VPS administrator now. Thanks!!
