Or some other baddie? For the last couple of days, when I go to the Psych Central forum site, even before I log on, I get a request "banners.cams.com wants to set a cookie. Do you want to allow it?" I have never seen this before from any site. So far it only happens here. Does it indicate some infection?

A brief search via Google suggests that this may be from an "adult" -- read "sex" -- site-promotion outfit.

I have a screen shot of this, if anyone wants to see it.

Sorry to hear of your experience. I assume this is when you're logged into the site, right?

We have no viruses on any of the Psych Central websites. We run daily virus detection and protection software (which is also updated daily).

Usually when a member complains of something like this, it is because their computer is infected with a piece of malware. Run malware detection software to verify and fix.

It happened this morning before I logged onto Psych Central. It has happened nowhere else.

I have a Macintosh; I doubt if it has any malware.

Could it then be coming from one of the advertisements non-logged-in people see?

You could tell if it did, since it would be connected or related to one of the ads being displayed on the page.

I don't see any ads, using two different browsers.

I have something called "Ghostery" on one browser, and it lists these things as being resident:

Collective Media

Comscore Beacon

DoubleClick

Evidon Notice

Google Analytics

Quantcast

In any case, on the browser I usually use, I removed all the Psych Central cookies, assuming they would be rebuilt, and I have not noticed the cookie request since.

I will report if I see it again.

We are not setting the cookie that's being complained about here. It does not appear it's coming from our website.
