I was thinking of starting some "Meetup" groups (www.meetup.com) for mental health-related support issues and I was wondering if it would be ok to advertise them here (and if so in which topic group). I was thinking:

1) under that disorder itself (so a group for GAD would be under Anxiety)

2) "Other treatments"

3) "self-help ideas"

4) "classifieds"

and/or all of the above (would it be considered spamming if I did all four? or just three? [or two?])

Thanks

I think but not sure there is a rule that we cant advertize other groups on psych central.

Doc John does offer a way to start your own groups here in the social group forums. they can be for any topic. you can ask a moderator how thats done. I know how to Join them but not how to start them. never been interested nor have the time to start any groups here.

Since meetup groups are for local groups of people -- not online groups -- you wouldn't gain much benefit from posting meetup.com announcements on the forums, since our members are spread out around the world.

This doesn't preclude someone from trying to organize a local get together or meetup. Just that I wouldn't come here looking to advertise it.

Best,
DocJohn
