No, I DON'T want to be patted on the head and hugged! All I want are ANSWERS. And if I had a decent answer myself I wouldn't start this thread. It hasn't happened to me before. And I am NOT offended. My feelings have NOT been hurt. However, I AM MYSTIFIED. I DO NOT understand. My question was (to my mind) perfectly straightforward. I was asking for practical advice from people who well may have been through such things before.

And I didn't get a SINGLE response. Zero. Now, if the underlying problem weren't ongoing and a real problem, I'd just drop it. Leave it alone. Walk away. But it IS a REAL problem.

Back a few days ago I started a thread in the Eating Disorders Forum titled "Work With T Makes Me Eat More." Actually, a lot more. And I was trying to get input about how to counter ravenous impulses when a T and a patient get into ticklish stuff, freaky subjects. Never had this happen before. I assumed, apparently wrongly, that "Eating Disorders" was the right forum to post in. But there hasn't been one single response.

Did I commit a social faux pas by posting in the Eating Disorders Forum? Is there some rule or etiquette of which I'm unaware that would point me to somewhere else? Or hasn't anyone else ever had this problem? What do YOU think?

don't have a clue if it was the wrong spot...don't usually land there in my wandering thru the forums...

but,..i can understand the eating thing...it's like when i get stressed or talking about deep stuff with t..i tend to get anxious & eat or drink more...like i have to fill the void inside...does that make sense? i don't think about doing it but looking back i know it happens.

maybe the deep talking about issues triggers something to make you want to "self-soothe" (geez i hate that term..sounds so...i don't know...dirty?) by eating or drinking..what ever works for you.

hey i could be oh so very wrong on this...but at least you know someone out there reads your post....
Thanks for this!

I have that forum blocked from my view because it's too triggery for me, but i can't see why that would have been the wrong forum to post in.

Maybe it would get more responses in the psychotherapy forum?
Thanks for this!

Hi

I didn't read your post as I hardly ever go in the Eating disorders forum, I remember one of my threads did not get a response too, I just thought maybe nobody could not relate.
Thanks for this!

Hi Yrgrec - this has happened to me a couple times where I didn't get any response at all. I try in my logical mind not to let it bother me, but I ended up chickening out and asked a moderator to delete my lonely thread lol...so it does happen sometimes. There's also some forums that don't get too much traffic and that could be the reason. I don't think you committed a faux pas at all.

To answer your topic - many people are emotional eaters. Personally when I'm very upset I don't always eat enough but its not on purpose. Its good to recognize this connection so you can learn to resist the urge.

You might have had better luck in the Psychotherapy forum? I know I would have related to it, seen it, answered it. ED to me means more like, not eating, rather than disordered eating? I always grocery shop after T - all on one bus trip, I honestly do not leave my apartment any other time - and often it is not good. I remember my dad giving me ice cream and cupcakes after my mom left for work.

I never saw the thread so of course I didn't respond. For me you can only post to so many threads without it completly stressing you out. I know posting some good advice for me takes time to think about it, and write it. It can be very draining if its something you yourself went through!!

I think you should not take this personally. It was the right spot to post it.Maybe you will get some good responses here.

i am laughing like a fool that your post in Tech Support should get you so many answers, Ygrec. i too find the ED forum too sad, and it's mostly for people who have trouble eating, i think. they don't associate much with folks who over eat. you know, the brain is a mighty calorie burning machine, and if you are thinking real hard, it wants easy cals... that might have something to do with it... try some candy right after session, it might help. best wishes,, Gus

Thank you all!!! No kidding. You've given me a different perspective on the issue. I WILL, as you suggested, go to the psychotherapy forum and post there. I thought the eating forum was for ALL eating problems. Ought to change the name. Well, thanks again, and if you want you'll find a new thread about eating in the psychotherapy forum, as I said. Take care!

Actually I think the eating disorder forum should be for all the different eating problems and not just for members who are depriving. Many people struggle with over eating and binging so posts like that should be there I think. Most people who struggle with their weight have emotional eating challenges.

I would suggest the Coping with Emotions forum might be a good place.

The description for the Eating Disorder forum is:
For the discussion and support of folks who deal with eating issues, such as anorexia, bulimia, and overeating.

I'm not saying your problem isn't a problem, but it really isn't an 'Eating Disorder.'

There are many more eating disorders than anorexia. There is Bulimia, ED-NOS (Eating Disorder- Not Otherwise Specfiied), Binge Eating Disorder (BED), Compulsive Over Eating (COE).

Having problems with 'weight' is not necessarly an eating disorder. And emotional eating isn't either. There are diagnosis criteria in the DSM for those who think they may be suffering.

I don't think you posted in the wrong place. I'm sorry I didn't see it. I don't often go to that part of the forum.
Could it be your T gives you comfort and enables you to eat and feel good? It could be self soothing also. Comfort food....
I'm not really sure. I never find my eating dependent on my T.
Thanks for this!

I read the post Ygrec but didn't feel it appropriate to leave a hug (as you mentioned) and had absolutely no idea as to what input to offer, so didn't say anything at all. Perhaps I should have said something like "I have read your post, I don't know what to say, but I hope others can come forward with some input".
I too, have had many threads with no answers whatsoever. I currently have one in the general forum. Posted on Friday morning and still no answers. It's about to move onto the second page. It isn't a nice feeling. But I am used to it now and just shrug my shoulders.

Ygrec, I read your post in the Ed forum a few days ago. I didn't respond because I have no good advice. The Ed forum is for all Ed problems not just under eating, I have posted there a few times for help with anorexia and didn't really get responses either. I think it is just a very slow board and not everyone can relate to each others problem. I now post my Ed issues in the bipolar forum because people know me there, they may not relate but can offer me the support I need.

Although I might now start posting about here I think the psychotherapy forum is a good idea. I hope you get some good advice on this issue. Good luck.
Thanks for this!
