As a mobile phone user, I do not have the option of ignoring people or forums. I have 3 list options: Forums, New Posts, and Subscibed Forums. I am wondering why the new christian social group threads appear in New Posts, while those of other social groups do not? All these threads are turning my little phone screen into The 700 Club, and honestly I find it upsetting. What exactly IS the purpose of a social group forum? Is showing up on New Posts optional? I don't mean to hurt anybody's feelings, but I get quite an involuntary negative reaction to these. Thanks.

Sorry don't have an answer but I was intrigued because I can't view the Social Groups on my mobile at all. There just isn't an option to do so.

Hankster, interesting because on my phone I have the option to ignore social forums. Just wondering if you have the option to use the full site on your phone as opposed to the mobile version. I'm just guessing this is why I have the option and you don't.

Hankster, I think the issue is the number of members in a group. A social group can't have a forum unless it has a certain number of members. I think it's 20 or over, but I'm not for sure. The three Christian groups have the required number, whereas the "Flylady" one has eleven members currently. I don't think it's related to being on a mobile. That's my guess, anyway.....

Hi Payne, thanks. So what you're saying is, once a social group goes over a certain size, everything is public. UNDER a certain size, you have to log into the social group to see the posts?
It seems to me a funny way to determine privacy, by SIZE. Small social groups are in effect private, larger ones are not. Is this actually true? Or can ANY social group be set up so that the ONLY people who can SEE the postings in it, are the members of that group? |

I'm definitely not expert on this topic. I THINK a social group can chose to start a forum if they reach a certain size, but I don't THINK they have to at that point.....I THINK they can still be private as to who can post on it and such.
Help! Can someone from the higher echelons (e.g., a moderator or such) address this issue? ![]() |

Thanks again, Payne, I have heard from a moderator. They said they cannot force a social group to be private. IMO, that would be a good option for people who wish to speak explicitly on any topic, instead of putting triggering words (for example, blatantly sexual or religious) in the thread title, or even in the post content. Unless you purposely enroll in and enter that social group, you would not be subjected to such material. Not censoring, just separating. You CHOOSE.
I was advised to PM Doc John. But since it looks like I'm the only one who has the objection (and the crummy phone), I'll just stuff it. Àdiós! ![]() |

The social group forums and the social groups are all public unless the group has specifically been set up as a private group by invitation only, then the group itself can be read (in the social groups area) but its forum is private. For example, the Christian Women's social group is public as is its forum. The Those in Therapy Book Club is an invite only group. You can access and read the group even though it is private, but you cannot see or access its associated forum.
