This programming while the system is on has its drawbacks. Once on a distant thread I tried a Thanks and got:

Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #2 is not an array in [path]/post_thanks.php on line 57

while just a minute ago, clicking on this thread in My Profile produced a blank page except for this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/grohol/public_html/forums/includes/class_postbit.php(265) : eval()'d code on line 94

Fatal error: Call to undefined function post_thanks_off() in /home/grohol/public_html/forums/includes/class_postbit.php(293) : eval()'d code on line 51

Yup... As I said, we prefer to keep the community online while programming stuff. An occasional error message seems preferable to shutting down the place for an hour or two while it's going on, no?

I guess so. It's just that I have been a member for three or four years and don't remember this kind of thing ever happening before. It is a surprise.

Well, I think that it is a good addition to have instead of just adding a reply space with just a hug which can take up more room in a thread. It is nice to just add hugs where people can join in on that sentiment and it can present a list of many who have read something sad and join together in lots of hugs.

Understood, but we have indeed done this before... unless you're on the site 24/7, I wouldn't expect any member to catch these things when we do them each and every time.

I really like this new hug feature to. Buttercup - maybe you should change your name to 'HugBug'....I see you have a whopping 38 hugs given . Really like the way there's a count on how many hugs given...thanks Doc John.

I noticed the forum has gotten a couple other new features in the past couple days, like the 2+ year member badge. Cool!

A lovely feature, I just hope people don't get hurt if they might not get a hug.

No more or less hurt than if someone posts something and they get no replies... We think that, overall, the new feature will help feel better appreciated, and to allow others to appreciate members in a simpler and easier manner.

Best,
DocJohn

Thanks to Doc John, admins and the tech folks for listening to us! I love the new hug button. There have been times in the past that I used the "thanks" button when a hug was more appropriate.

As for shutting down the site for updates. I used to belong to a community that did that. It was very upsetting to go on line and find the site unavailable. I'd much rather have cliches in the system when I'm here than not be able to access the forums when I'm hurting.

Ok, so I see I got three hugs from members on a previous post but I have no hug badge with amount of hugs given.

You don't get the badge until you have given a hug I don't think

I posted a hug to Buttercup and that brought up my badge But I have already received four hugs from this thread but only 1 shows. Sigh.

The badge only shows the hugs you give to other people.
