I have been thinking it for a while so I figured I might as well suggest it. Whenever there is a holiday, etc., ie Christmas, Halloween, thanksgiving, new year, threads tend to overrun General Chat. For example at this current moment there are 8 threads just on the first page of General Chat on Christmas and new year, and going through a few pages I've found over 25 threads, including thanksgiving which a lot of us don't actually celebrate because we are from other countries. While I have no problem with people making threads on holidays and celebrations, when they take over a forum it gets harder to find threads that aren't on the subject and it pushes threads on general conversations down. Plus I am aware that there are a number of people on PC that are triggered by particular holidays (for example conversations on what people got for Christmas is a trigger for me as I grew up watching some family members get showered with gifts, showing up with in the new clothes and jewellery they received, and all their new toys, on their way to receive more presents, while I got an average of 3 things because my mother preferred substances for herself). Perhaps there could be a new forum created specifically for holidays/celebrations? There will definitely be enough posts going on it, these posts will no longer take over General Chat (I don't at all mean for that to sound nasty if it does), and people who are triggered by particular holidays or aspects can more easily avoid being triggered. Anyway, just an idea...

Any celebration threads could be relegated to the kudo forum. Wouldn't want anyone to be happy all over the site, let's keep it to one spot.

Uh, I hope you aren't implying that I'm suggesting we keep any happiness and celebration in one forum and leave the rest of the site miserable. I have in no way suggested or implied that. My suggestion is based on the fact there are so many threads on a topic theme, ie holidays, why not make a particular forum dedicated to it. There is PLENTY of happiness all over PC, a lot of joke threads, funny stories, photos, games, a thread about Christmas is not the only form of happiness here.

Would all holiday discussions go into the new, proposed forum? Or could those who are being triggered by a particular holiday be able to post about that in the regular forums for support and only use the new forum for celebratory posts?

I personally don't have ne triggers with the holidays but I do think that that is a good idea.. I can see how it would be hard for others.. Holidays are not joyous for everyone..

It's not just about triggers of course, I also thought of it because as I mentioned previously there are 8 posts on the first page of General Chat (that's almost half the posts) just on Christmas and New Years. Why not just make a special forum just for these posts? People obviously enjoy discussing it, which is great, but all the general conversation posts get pushed down during holiday seasons. During thanksgiving the same thing happens, I'm from Australia so Thanksgiving kind of isn't relevant to me! haha And the same goes for many others here. There may be people on PC who don't celebrate Christmas for religious reasons.
I wasn't meaning to offend anyone by the suggestion...

So does it mean non-American non-Christians are never happy, because they do not celebrate your holidays? It does really clutter the forum.... and soem of us want to discuss different things that Xmas even if it is December....

Yes this is true Venus, I have nothing against people discussing Christmas, but a holiday forum can create a place for those who really get into it to discuss it. Just like we have a forum on general discussion, a forum for games, a forum for movies/music, etc. Why not a forum for holidays?

Thank you for the feedback and suggestion of a holiday forum.

At this time, we're going to keep the holiday discussions on the general social chat forum, because the number of times during the year where such discussions are frequent are pretty small (like, just right now). Thanksgiving and other holidays simply don't generate more than a few threads.

It would also be extremely difficult and time-consuming for us to police this new policy if we were to implement it, since people might not think twice about posting about a holiday issue in another forum (especially if it were directly related to their issue, such as depression, anxiety, abuse, etc.). Where do we draw the line?

Thanks again,
DocJohn

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
