I want to custom avatar and profile pic. But what kind of file do I need? I tried with a word file and it was rejected. Do I need a jpg? Do I need microsoft picture manager? Also, if I use a picture from my computer, does that mean anyone can see the ownership profile and learn, for example, my real name by looking at where the file is from? I hope this makes sense. shipping

Shipping, I've never done this so I might be wrong, but I believe what you do is click on "my profile", then click on "edit profile". You have to have previously uploaded the image to PC in order to use it. You enter the URL of the uploaded picture in a box that comes up when you click on "edit profile."

+++++++++++++++

Never mind. I just tried doing what I told you and it didn't work. Hopefully a more techy oriented person will respond.

The instructions for custom avatars at the bottom of the Edit Avatar page say:
You may upload a new custom image using the controls below.

Option 1 - Enter the URL to the Image on Another Website

Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 85 by 85 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
I've seen both .jpg and .gif files used as avatars. I don't know if any other filetypes would also work. If the image that you're starting with is bigger than those size limits, you'll need to find a way to resize it. Photoshop is the only thing I've tried but I don't see why others, including the microsoft picture manager you mentioned, wouldn't work as well.

No. After you upload a picture (as an avatar, a profile picture, or an album picture) all links to it will go only to the copy that's at PC. There'll be no indication of whose computer it originally came from or of what else might be on that computer.
Thanks for this!
