I sometimes post things I later regret and it is not always possible to find a moderator who can delete the post as quickly as I would like. Is there a way for us to delete our own posts?

I know you can if you do so quickly after you post it, or it least you can edit it to say nothing. I think the edit option times out? It would be nice for it not to time out, since we are the authors, after all...

I do know about the time-out--I believe it is about 4 hours but sometimes I come to my senses after that period..

sabby did teach me that instead of trying to contact a moderator individually, I can contact them all at once via the Report Post icon (the triangle icon with the exclamation mark inside of it, situated on the left side of the message screen) and that way all the mods will see my delete request and that would probably make the deletion much easier and faster.
Thanks for this!

yes posts can be deleted. like someone above said you can do so using the edit button as long as time has not past..

you just go to the post that you want to delete, click edit, in the box that pops up delete all the post and write in the post box "deleted". when you submit all people will see is the word "deleted" where your post used to be.

you can also have a moderator delete it by sending them a private message or using the report button to the left of the post. you just need to write in the report box why you would like your post deleted.

someone else in this thread said something about why we cant delete /edit after time out.

in my opinion its because someone can change their post after reading the replies and then the replies would not make sense..

example

I like cats does anyone know how to stop furballs?(original post)

I like all cats too, I give my cat treats say on it that it helps with the furballs. it really works. does your cat scratch the couch, what do you do for it? (reply)

cats are obnoxious (another reply)

I like pit bull dogs, mine is named poppi why does he eat grass? (original poster edit to original post)

oh sorry I thought you said you liked cats, and had a cat problem. I hate pit bulls they are dangerious(reply to edited post)

yea pit bulls are used for fighting I hope you are not doing anything illegal like my neighbors did. (reply to edited post)

I like corn snakes mine is named fred how can I stop him from shedding? ( original posted doesnt like where the thread is heading because someone said pit bulls are dangerous so they edit again)

wait a minute how come the original post keeps changing? what are we talking about here.. cats, or pit bulls or corn snakes which is it that you are having a problem with and how can we help you. (reply to second edit of original post)

(people stop replying to this thread because it keeps changing and now they may be questioning whether this original poster is for real or is just playing head games with everyone.)

my opinion I am glad theres a time limit to editing posts. this is a mental health website, many mental disorders have the symptom of hallucinations, a posting continuing to change could cause a person to believe they are hallucinating, and it could cause members to question what the original posters motives are, whether they really want help or whether they are just playing mind games with the other PC members.
Thanks for this!

Within the four-hour window for editing:

-- If your post is a reply, you can delete it altogether. Click on [Edit] and look for a [Delete] button.

-- If it's the top post of a thread, you can use the [Edit] button to take most of the text out of it but only a moderator or administrator will be able to remove the thread altogether.

Even outside the time window, you can use the Report button (Possible to let us delete our own posts?) to ask that your reply or thread be removed. Usually the first team member to see the report who can do anything about it, will.

You could PM someone on the Community Support Team instead. If they'd just left, though, they might not get your message for several hours even though their status icon (Possible to let us delete our own posts?) continued to show them as logged in for a while longer.

Depending on the forum, not all moderators may be able to edit posts there. When I receive a deletion request for a forum I don't have the "keys" to, I have to pass it along to someone else on the team -- another reason the Report button is often faster than PMing.
Thanks for this!

You would need to pm DocJohn and discuss it with him. He is the only one who can help with this issue.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
