It hasn't changed that I can see.
It's special characters first, then numerical, then alphabetical.

We changed it from alphabetical to random because it helps reduce the load on the server, believe it or not.

That is weird DocJohn. I don't like the new format, but suppose I will have to get used to it. I don't do well with change of any sort, but am working on it.

Above the member list is a link called Currently Active List that displays all users, in alphabetical order. The default for this is to also show guests but if you scroll to the bottom, you can select only members as well as adjust the amount displayed on each page.
Thanks for this!

Does that include member here currently who are in "invisible mode?"
Why would anyone want to know what other members are doing?
Just curious.

Members who are in invisible mode do not show up on the who's online list.

The who's online is useful if you want to know if a friend is online or if you want to see if admin or mod are available.

But there are more obvious ways to know if a mod or friend is online.
And if your friend is one of those who use invisible mode then that isn't going to help much. I can look at my friends list to see if they are online. I can look at the usual list on the front page to see which mods are online. Your link was helpful. I just don't see the point in knowing what anyone's current activity is. That's just me though.

The OP's question was asked and answered.

Please do not ask questions about why people would use standard features of our forums. That's the reason they are standard features -- they are not there to be questioned.

Thank you,
DocJohn
