Can I???

I will be given discs that are saved in word. Is there a way that I can open them with my works?

Help please? If I can't is there somewhere online that has the capability of doing that for me?

Thanks so much!

KD, I used to have WordPerfect and was able to open Word docs with it. If that's doable, I imagine using a Microsoft product to open another Microsoft product shouldn't be a problem! But what do I know. Opening a reading a word doc with works?

Good luck!

Thank you guys! I figured it out! I remember what son-in-law showed me. When I open my works and hit "open file", I want to go down to the drop down menu and open the "word (.doc) files" and it will open them in my works. I had a friend send an attachment in word through email and i was able to open in that way! I'm so excited! I can also save them that way to send to those that don't have works! Too cool!

So, I should be able to read .doc documents from a disc the same way. Opening a reading a word doc with works?

Thanks again!

Microsoft Works? I have that. I couldn't open documents with Works itself, but I was able to with the word processor function (WksWP.exe), although it opens it as a .wps file, and you can save it as that. I don't have an "open file" in Works itself, but maybe in the word processor; I didn't look too closely. I have Word, so I don't use the word processor in Works. I mostly use Works for the calendar (I love that calendar!). Opening a reading a word doc with works?

Yes, Maven, I should've been more clear. I was using works word processor, and was able to open word documents by going into the file type and clicking on "word 98-2002 (.doc)" and it opened it just fine for me to read.

It was really important to me as I'll be getting information on discs that will be in word. I'm hoping that I won't have a problem.

I know that I've been asked to save works documents as txt and other files for other people to read more easily and didn't know how, and I know how to do that now in the processor as well. Opening a reading a word doc with works?

Before I got this computer, I used only Word and wasn't familiar at all with file types, now I'm learning a tad.

Thank you!

I know some different file types, but not always sure how to convert files. I got Word when I got my computer so I had a professional Word Processor for my writing; I didn't know the computer would come with MS Works, and that Works had a word processor, but I'm still glad I got Word, because I don't know if Works is professional enough for my needs.

Openoffice will open anything I get from anywhere! However, don't create documents in Open Office and expect others to be able to open them. Opening a reading a word doc with works?

KD if you run into trouble download this viewer.

I had to do it when I was dealing with an editor that had Word and I couldn't open her documents. I downloaded this from Microsoft and can open all word docs now. Opening a reading a word doc with works?
