I am getting frustrated with a problem that has occured a few times now. I will be finishing up on a well thought out message that has taken maybe 15 minutes to type. I want to end the message with a smilie, so I go to the smilie symbol, scroll down to other smilies, and when I click on it, I lose my whole message and have jumped to the next forum room.

This is frustrating me very much.

Sorry, I don't have a solution for your problem.

All I can suggest is highlighting and copying your message, before clicking on the Submit Reply button. If you lose it, then you can paste it in a new post.

I do this all the time, since I often get timed out.
Thanks for this!

I would try submitting your reply, then editing and adding the smilie afterwards. if somebody reads me too soon, they miss the good stuff. Don't keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result, that's the definition of insanity

The strange thing is this doesn't happen with every post. It is something random. I don't know if it is a programming glitch they might want to look into.

Thank you Didgee and Hank for your suggestions. I will definitely try other options now. Maybe typing the message up in Word and then doing a copy and paste. The issue seems to be with the emoticon click though.

Sometimes (not always, unfortunately), when I click the "Back" button in my browser, I do get a lost post back.

At least once, I've had the electricity in the neighborhood go out for an hour and still been able to get the post back. Sometimes Firefox just asks if I want to restore the previous session and when I click "Yes", there it is. Other times I've had to put the cursor in the box (now empty) where I'd been writing the post, right-click, and select "Undo".
Thanks for this!

Every smiley has a text shortcut that you can also enter in manually in your message. This could be handy if you're finding yourself using the same few common smileys over and over again. Here's the list:
