I have a local cable Internet service. Can I install a free trial of AOL or NetZero and use one of them part of the time? Will it interfere with my local service? I'm curious to see what AOL and NetZero have to offer but don't want to cancel my current provider. The AOL cd also has 50 games on it so would like to give them a try.

AOL viruses, trojan horses, and worms are scary.

If you install AOL, place it on a separate drive from your system's programs and private files. Set a password to protect the other drives.

Or, go to the library and use AOL there . . . keep your computer safe from hackers.

I liked how easy it was to meet in person people I contacted through AOL.

Yes, you can install AOL and use with your cable server. I don't remember needing to "dial up" with AOL. AOL has excellent customer service people (and "how to" pages) to help walk you through the setup process.

When you sign up for AOL for Broadband, AOL allows you time to arrange your separate high-speed connection with your local cable or phone company. During this period, you can use unlimited dial-up access to connect to the AOL service without any excess dial-up fees (telephone charges may still apply depending on your calling plan and location.) Changes to your AOL price plan take effect on the next billing date after you request them, so you will remain on your current plan for the remainder of the month. After that initial month on the AOL for Broadband plan, you will be billed for dial-up service and monthly fees at the rate in your AOL for Broadband price plan. For more information go to AOL Keyword: Billing.

Like everyone says, you can have both. I have two at the moment myself, but I'm dumping one when I get all my accounts switched over to the new one.

One thing about AOL: I was with them years ago, and when I left them, they called me repeatedly for months, trying to get me to sign back up, offering me all kinds of deals, even if it was just a $4.95 service. They were a good service for me, and it was nice to have a backup, but just be aware that if you unsubscribe from their service, they may be a pain about it for a while.
