Please may I ask for help with my display settings on my new monitor.

Ok, the monitor is a 17" Flatscreen Plasma

- I have installed the driver
- The recommended resolution is 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz but I can't see a durn thing at that setting.
- I have it at 1024 x 768 @ 60Hz which seems to be about the best in terms of clarity. However, the clarity is just not good. Text is quite smudged.
- I changed the font size under Display Settings, Appearance Tab, but even though the bigger font is easier to see, it just doesn't "look" right. So I have set it back to normal.
- DPI is set to normal size (96%). I did try moving that around but it made little or too much difference.

I can't think of anything else that I have or haven't done.

Any tips on how to make my resolution more clear?

Have you tried to use the recommended resolution (1280 x 1024) and then increase the text size via your browser? It should not distort the web page you are viewing. Dunno but since you can't see with this resolution maybe changing the text size might help... Which browser do you use?

Yes, I have tried that option. I am more or less comfortable with the text size now but find the text to be smudged. It is not only web pages but word applications etc too. I don't know if that makes sense. Perhaps it is supposed to look like that but I somehow don't think so.

The 1280x1024 pulls everything into a tiny box in the middle of my screen.

I have also adjuted and played around with all the settings on the actual monitor.

I assume you have also been playing around with color setting i.e. 16-bit, 32-bit, 256 colours? And rebooting the pc? Tried the troubleshooting tab?

Hi Sabrina

I'm assuming that since you've played around with the DPI setting that you've already looked into these options but have you changed/played around with the Screen Refresh Rate (Hertz)? or have you looked into the Hardware Acceleration options?

It could be that you're just not used to it, or glare (or is that lack of glare) on that type of monitor.

Good luck getting it all sorted out!
