I was in the self-injury area and going to read the 'Reasons not to' sticky, however when I went to the page I got this warning:

Danger: Malware Ahead!
Google Chrome has blocked access to this page on forums.psychcentral.com.
Content from members.lycos.nl, a known malware distributor, has been inserted into this web page. Visiting this page now is very likely to infect your computer with malware.
Malware is malicious software that causes things like identity theft, financial loss, and permanent file deletion.

I would have posted that as a link to the screen shot, however as my post limit is under 5 currently I can't.

Every time I go back to try and visit the page I get that warning again. Also, I am using Google Chrome.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the heads-up, Sivol, and welcome to Psych Central!

I'm using Firefox (the latest, 18.0.2). I just paged through that whole thread without any problem. After I closed the tab I ran a quick scan with my anti-virus program. It found no problems either.

I have no idea, of course, whether your Google Chrome is alerting to threats that aren't really there, or my Firefox is overlooking real threats, or something else on my computer is routinely blocking suspicious content before Firefox even sees it.

That seems to be the only page I am experiencing this issue with, at least for the time being, and it's still ongoing. The roommate says that it's likely an issue with my browser though, so I'll probably wind up just using a different browser if the problem persists.

I just checked about that and one site said an avator hosted on that site you mentioned, would bring up that message.

This wasn't from our site, but rather from an image in a member's signature. Since we allow members to embed links and images in their signatures, we are dependent upon members to maintain such links and images, and ensure they link to where they intended.

In this case, it was a member who hadn't visited the site in 6 years. Her signature had links to a site that, at one time, hosted some images people could use. It apparently no longer does, and now is a site that also hosts malware.

These links were removed from the unsuspecting member's signature, and so you should no longer receive that warning.

Which is a great reminder to members -- please ensure you're linking to sites you know and trust, even if it's just for images.

Best,
DocJohn

Goodmorning,

I just got this message again.

you do not have permission to access this page.

This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Anybody else recieving this?
H.

Also have your malware/spyware protection on, to check pictures to make sure they are safe!

I sometimes get this when I am reading without being logged in and have clicked on what I thought to be the posted thread but ended up clicking on the persons name thats right underneath the subject line of the thread.

short version you cant see a persons profile page without being logged in.

I also get this when I am trying to read a post at the same times as the moderators are either moving/removing/ or closing a thread at the same time as I have clicked on the subject line. I click my back key then try the post again. and refresh my page. that allows me to see whether the post/thread has been closed/ removed/ or moved when I was trying to read or reply to it.

Here is the case with most "malware" warnings. If it comes up as a page that says the warning - most likely it gives you the option to clean your computer. Never click on this, the site is a fake and likely phishing site. The only way to trust the malware warnings are if they come up from an anti-malware program you know you have installed. Like Malwarebytes. If it came up outside of this it can mean two things: Either you have spyware already on your computer and something is triggering the spyware to give you the fake warning or one of the sites you linked to has the spyware. If you get the warning, don't worry, don't panic, just close the page and leave. There are very few (if any) sites that can install malware on your computer without you doing something more than just going to the site. I hope this makes sense.

Suggestion: If you suspect malware and your av (antivirus) has not caught it, download rkill and then malwarebytes. rkill is a tiny program that will kill the rootkit processes that are running (but doesn't remove the offending malware) as soon as that is finished scan with malwarebytes (or av of your choice, of course but I recommend malwarebytes) and it should find all the spy/malware and get rid of it.

Sorry for the ramble. Just trying to help

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
