What's the criteria for choosing to "Thank" the writer for a post and saying that I "Like" what a member wrote?

roadie
Thanks for this!

good question, Roadie...gosh maybe we do have too many buttons to push here..

like and thanks are sorta the same if you think like me. yes i like what you wrote and thank you for writing it.. and thanking you means i like what you wrote. but then i like what you wrote means i agree with you.. and thank you could be just thanking you for writing what you wrote which i guess could also mean i agree but then thanking you just because i am thanking you.. hmmm

Difference from my perspective.... "Thanks" very positive, you argee and feel for the person... "Like" you like the post but send them a black hart... ROFL I believe our PC gods have all the best in their minds... but sometimes they too need assistance in creative thinking....
Thanks for this!

Dear Pikku Myy,

I agree with what you wrote, thank you.
We have an option to: thank/hug/reply I think that is enough said.
Now we have-permalink, what is that?
And I went on george H post and there was a lump option which is invisible unless you scroll around it is by the like button?
Do yo know what that is?
Sincerely,
Happiedasiy

I clicked on the 'lump' on George H's post and it is a T-shirt saying 'lump it.' I don't think this is anything to do with Psych Central though.

Dear P.,
Thank you for your quick reply, I understand now.
I have only one other question, what is the 'permalink" option for?
Sincerely,
Happiedasiy

Hello Happiedasiy, I don't see a 'permalink' option.

No, it does not.

FYI, Facebook didn't invent "liking" something -- we liked stuff online long before Facebook...

I added that button. Just having fun with the whole "like" thing... you know... "like it or lump it"
My final opinion before this thread gets closed as another one did (or was this the first one and it remains open...there are 3, tho one has been closed) ... the like button is fine... I don't really care one way or the other.
It's the recording and posting of statistics that doesn't seem right IMO...
that comes across as competition and popularity rating... sorry but that is how it will be perceived regardless of what site representatives say to the contrary. If you like the like button on FB chances are you will like it here too.
edit: oops...there are 4 threads. Only one was closed "because there is already another thread on this subject"... okay...

Happiedaysiy, oh I see! Well, I clicked on the permalinks and it appears to move the page down so you see the next picture?? It might do something different for you as it is your profile page.

That's just a link you can use to direct someone to that particular message, so they won't have to hunt through your other VMs to find it.

Permalinks have also been added to Social Group messages recently.
Thanks for this!

You've all ignored my question ...

What is the difference between "like" and "thank"?
Thanks for this!

Sorry,I don't really know the actual difference, but in my personal opinion, the "like" would be I guess if you "like" the general idea of a post, and the thank is maybe a higher-octane version of the "like"?

I know I hit the thanks button when someone has voiced something I agree with, or can identify with, or just thanking someone for replying to my post.

Just a thought, don't know if this is correct, but my interpretation, I guess.

Yes, I guess I might want to thank George H for his post but I might not like it. Whereas I might like your post Roadie but I don't feel I need to thank you for it!

I found this for you too, Roadie, if it helps,
Quote:
Liking and Thanking Re: What is this like/share thing?
It's not meant to say someone likes a specific person... it's meant to acknowledge agreement or liking with someone's thoughts, feelings or post.

Just like on Facebook. Which has like a billion users... so they must be doing something right!

We'll try this out for a week and see how things are going after that time. We don't add too many new features in our community, and this is the first one we've added in a long time, so let's give it a chance...

Yes, you could be thankful to someone for saying something that gives you a better understanding of them but you wouldn't necessarily like what they said. I think I will go back and thank your post.
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
