There's something that I'd really like to get advice on, but as anonymous as the boards are, I've told some of my friends and family that I'm a member here and it's really something that I'd rather not have them find out about.

Is there a way to post anonymously so that I can still say what I need to say without having anyone close to me know who I am?

Thanks,
A Particularly Paranoid Poster

I thought about doing that, but I'd heard before that some forums have functionality available for anonymous posting. And I've seen other people doing it occasionally... so I get the feeling I'm just missing something.

I'm sure it's obvious and I'm just dumb.

Do you think they would know you and your life well enough to recognize your posts even if you posted anonymously? I don't think you can though. You can ask that your posting ID be changed. The anonymous ID posts you may have seen are by former members who have left and closed their account.

We do not allow anonymous posting here.

If you see a username with "anonymous" in it, it is a member who has left the community and has had their account deleted. We "anonymize" their old account in the process by changing their username to anonymous, followed by a number.

Contact another admin to see about setting up a second account. We allow this in certain circumstances when we are contacted ahead of time about the issue.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
