I've noticed in recent months a lot of people who quit their PC account only to come back some time later. PC, like a lot of things online, can be very addictive to people and the only way they feel they can get away is to delete their accounts so they have no reason to come back. I submit a proposal. I don't know if it is something you can do. I assume you could since you occasionally suspend people for behavior, though it would definitely be more work for someone.

Could you set up a way that a member can suspend their account? The member prepicks a date in the future or you have several options: a months, two months, etc, and during that time neither the member nor the other members can access the account at all. It's essentially turned off or gone, and then once that preset date rolls around, it is automatically reactivitated. It is just a thought. I know I would be very interested in such an option.

Umm, I don't think it would very nice to be 'banned' for 2 months and not have the option to come back earlier. I think everyone should have the opportunity to come back when they want and get that support they need.

Maranara, you could always tell someone you trust your password, and then they could change it for you temporarily. Just an idea.

Pegasus, it would be a decision you'd make ahead of time and like a lot of life's decisions, once made you'd have to stick with it. It's better than having to delete your account and start it back up at a later date just to potentially delete it again like I've seen a number of people do.

H3rmit, my paranoia and anxiety are too strong right now to trust anyone with that info or much of anything. Good idea on the surface, I guess, but when people get to the point they want to leave, it would be nice if they could without ending it all.

It was just a thought. Not saying it can be done or ever will be done....

Unfortunately, we can't be people's proxy for self-management tools. We prefer people manage their online behavior on their own, or with other third-party tools. I could see someone asking us to suspend their account, then asking us to undo the suspension, then asking us to reinstate the suspension again (we've actually had something similar happen on more than one occasion).

So if you want to take a break, perhaps the best way is to simply delete the bookmark or whatever and just don't come back here for X weeks.

Best,
DocJohn

Change your password to something really crazy like slYYT755Yhdk321. Make a note. Put the note in an closed envelope and put in a top cabinet.

That should help you with temptation.

One can add the PC forums page to their computer's host list. The page won't be able to open on that computer, at all. Websites can also be banned with a wireless router.

If it is what you want to do, you just have to do it. I was playing major, costly games on Facebook (Mafia Wars, etc.) and had over 1000 "friends" to support them, etc.; I deleted the friends who weren't truly known to me/my actual friends and family, deleted/blocked the games, sent a message to my friends and family that I wouldn't be coming on as often and now I maybe show up every couple weeks or even only once a month. I picked another health-related site I preferred and go there and here, instead.

If you want other people to help you stay away, just tell those specific people to give you a hard time if you show up before X date.
