Just saw the NewsBot posted this:
Decline Seen in Child Abuse, But Not Neglect | Psych Central News

Neglect IS child abuse, and I feel this article fails to reflect this.

Best way to report this is to PM Doc or one of the administrators. I read the article but didn't get the impression it was minimizing neglect but maybe this triggered you in a different way. It was saying SA and physical abuse was down, but not neglect. IMO neglect is under the umbrella of abuse.

I think the following link will help you understand the difference between child abuse (or any kind of abuse) and neglect.

Difference Between Abuse and Neglect | Difference Between | Abuse vs Neglect

Please know that I am not nor are others, stating that one is worse than the other, just different in their definitions.
Thanks for this!

IMO neglect is a form of abuse - for example a caregiver who starves a child but doesn't hit the child. Starving causes harm/possible death and is therefore a passive type of abuse.

What Is Child Abuse? What Is Child Neglect?

I read the article, as stating that the reports of abuses declined, but not the reports of neglect. Not that neglect isn't abuse, but how the data is collected.
I find it promising, that neglect is mentioned synonymously with abuse.

I'd be curious to hear what DocJohn has to say about the article, itself, however??

I think I was just feeling triggered and saw it very simplistically as saying neglect wasn't abuse. Sorry!
