I have tried to find a list of what some of the abbreviations are here at PC. Is there one? If not I would like to suggest that it would be helpful for new members. It is easy to assume that using an abbreviation will be understood by everyone that reads it.

For new members it can also be very intimidating when posting for the first few times because you might use the wrong one. Example: Previously I knew and used pp for what is pdoc there.

I think individuals have to ask about what they do not understand as there is no set abbreviations or way of knowing who is going to abbreviate something and not explain it in their post or what they are going to abbreviate. Yes, most people here use a "t" to abbreviate therapy or therapist and "pdoc" for psychiatrist, and PC to abbreviate PsychCentral (that took me a while to figure out, I couldn't understand what "personal computer" had to do with the post :-) but I don't know of any others that aren't standard abbreviations that one can look up (BP versus BPD, for example) or that certain forums about that issue/forum are going to use but not others (and that people in that forum can help with). With texting being so popular now, especially with younger members, I think one has to ask whoever is abbreviating what they meant if one does not understand something. Abbreviations seem more individual now and I don't think a list would help much other than for those words people can figure out anyway.

Thanks for the links. I bookmarked them to copy later. My computer is acting up today so keep needing to log in and out if I have anything else open.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
