I have a yahoo account that I use mostly IRL (school stuff, family, friends etc.) but I often have people complaining that they don't receive the messages I'm sending to them. I'm not sure if it was just an accident (or rather a series of accidents) or maybe Yahoo is just unreliable? I have several other accounts (aol, goowy, gmail) but I find Yahoo being most user-friendly one. But if it's their fault my messages are not being delivered I think it'll be better to get rid of it and find something else (I was thinking of another gmail account). Anyone having similar problems? Any tips greatly appreciated.

I use my ISP mailbox or another paid one for "important" mail to make sure I have someone to call if I have a problem. I don't think the great big free ones can be that reliable all the time.

Have you tried sending yourself mail to your other mailboxes to see if you can duplicate/confirm not getting the mail? Is it everyone you send to or just a few? It's hard these days to figure out some problems what with firewalls and other protection systems (especially people at work at companies with sophisticated computer systems); not every business likes the free accounts since they're so susceptible to spam, they automatically block them.

I have an inexpensive dial-up account (even though I don't use dial-up) just for the other features (e-mail, free web site without ads, etc.). There's a wonderful/easy ISP, http://www.isp.com that's less than $10 a month that I got for a friend and we've used (she doesn't have credit cards so I pay with mine and she pays me back) that for a couple years. Even though I have Comcast cable to get online, my own dial-up is http://www.arczip.com and I've used them 6-8 years and highly recommend them. I always keep a dialup around so I can get online during vacation or if something happens to cable, etc.

I have several Yahoo addresses and I have found them to be no problem. I don't know why your email messages aren't getting through. If it's important that they do so, perhaps you could email Yahoo about the issue? I think it was a good suggestion of Perna's to try emailing yourself from another address. If it works fine for you when you email yourself, perhaps you could consider that the people who complain about not receiving your emails might just receive them and say they haven't to annoy you or something Anyone having problems with Yahoo mail?

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Zorah, have you tried a different browser? I'm using Firefox2 and there's no problem with accessing the site. But when I tried it with Internet Explorer it was painfully slow and I had to try three times before I could sign up for an account.

Thanks for the info, Perna but it's not available here anyway. My Internet provider's offer actually includes unlimited number of mail accounts and web hosting too as long as they aren't bigger than 50MB but I don't use them and prefer to stick with the free ones.

It happened with several different people. Sometimes I have to send the message two times until it gets through. I don't have this problem with gmail (and I use it even more often) so I think I'll switch to this one. I also have aol but it's soooo slow and I practically don't use it.

Yeah, it's a good idea, it never occurred to me to email myself Anyone having problems with Yahoo mail?. I'll try that, thanks.

Silver_queen, due to various reasons I don't think they say this to annoy me. I know them well and it's really not likely. If the messages I send to myself won't get through I'll consider informing Yahoo about it but I don't think they will care much since it's a FREE account so there's no guarantee. I think I'm going to switch to something else anyway. I prefer to be sure people receive what I send to them. And BTW I love your avatar!

Thanks for the suggestions!

in the past 7 or 8 years that I've had a Yahoo email account, I have had a couple of problems - for eg. couldn't open an email (an important one) - so I had to contact Yahoo, they then were able to get into my email with my permission, and fixed things
