Some of those social group forums look rather interesting. But, I have no idea how to join. I did some clicking around, and was able to find and join some others that aren't listed on the main page... but, I'd really like to join one of those that are on listed on the main page.

at the top of the body of the forum, it will tell you who started it, and what kind of forum it is: Invite Only; Moderated; or Public. you have to write to the forum opener to join many of them, requesting admission. some people come to PC less often than an interested party might like, so you might have to wait a while. there is also a link to the original member group that made the forum, if you want to send an Invitation Request. sometimes those are hard to notice. better to write to the group founder.

glad you are finding things of interest~ best wishes~

feeling pretty damn stupid
I can't even find a box to click on to post a message (not very computer savvy)
I can't seem to figure out where I belong either. Just feel like something very light-hearted right now, but last post on games I gave a 4-letter word instead of a 5-letter word! Are people pretty accepting on these sites - I don't want to be annoying.

Start New Thread is always to the upper left of the Main Topic List, not in an open topic post. so, for example, go to Forum Index on your home page, select a topic that is interesting or applicable to you, and above that first set of Titles you will see "Start New Thread".

If a member replies in a non-supportive (offensive) manner you can report them to admin by using the little red ! at the bottom left of every post. you can also put members on your IGNORE list (under Customize Profile, from the long menu on the left). this prevents them from posting on any more threads you start.

there are many more tips at the top of the Community Forum, under the Sticky: Tutorials. i hope you learn your way around soon. if you have questions, you can ask the Community Liaisons or send me a Private Message.
best wishes~
Gus

Participating in a social group forum is a bit tricky, because you can't post to that forum until you become a member of the related social group.

So to become a member of the social group first, you click on the "Social Groups" menu item which takes you to a listing of all of our member-created social groups:

http://forums.psychcentral.com/groups/

Browse through them or use the search box to find the one you're looking for. Click on the name of it to read more about it or to join it.

The "Join this group" option is all the way at the bottom of the social group's page, which many people miss finding. Scroll down and then you'll see it in a blue bar (in the default theme).

Once you join a group, you will be able to post to that group's forum. Some groups may need that group leader's approval to join, so you may not be able to immediately post until the leader has approved your join request.

Hope that clarifies things....

DocJohn

I tried clicking the link you provided, and I got a message saying I do not have sufficient privileges to access the page. What's going on with that?

At the time you tried to click on the link, you may not have had enough posts through moderation yet. I think, if you try again, now that you have 5+ posts approved, you should be able to connect. Post back either way okay? Thanks.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
