I'm just curious as to why and how are people accessing chat without even knowing that PsychCentral exists. I ran into a very nice woman last night. I suggested she put in the forum what she was seeking help with as she would get more responses than just using chat. She didn't know what the forum was. She did end up in the right place though. She was looking for opinions on a specific MI issue.. She ended up grateful for the answers she received
I'm not complaining that people can get into chat without 5 posts. I just didn't know if you were aware of it. |

My understanding was that this is policy. When I welcome a new member one of the things I typically mention is that, after 5 posts, they can enter the chat rooms. It would be good to clarify this. I don't want to be giving out misinformation...

It is policy. If a member is entering chat with less than 5 posts, they are violating our policy and should be brought to our attention. (Only Psych Central members can access the chat rooms to begin with.)
Nobody gets into trouble for this, we just want to keep the community safe and supportive (and this is one of the ways we do that). Thanks! DocJohn

I didn't think it was actually possible to access chat without a certain number of posts? That's how it was when i first joined...

I have also chatted with someone who had not posted. He mentioned that they were not going to let him in chat but they did. Not sure what that meant.

people from the 'sister site', Neuro Forums, can enter PC Chats without being 'members'. i have seen that sometimes. they usually know what a Forum is, tho, just maybe don't know their way around this one.

While that was true at one time, NeuroTalk no longer shares the chatrooms with us. They have their own chat system...

Now chat isn't letting me in. It says I need 5 posts to enter. I have 5 posts. I will make 5 more posts and see if that helps.
