I was looking through your section on depression. I came across a link for etc.org I went to this site and was appalled at the information it provided.
They did have some good information regarding the FDA, but most information was negative. The site claims to portray neg, pro, and neutral comments. I found only negative. PLEASE either remove the link from your site or add additional links with different views of ECT.
Thank you

Thanks for this!

Thanks, we'll definitely take a look at it.

I can concur with emwell's concerns about ect.org. It is VERY one-sided website, VERY anti-ECT, and anyone who in any way speaks of their own positive experience with ECT is practically attacked by the members there (and I'm not just talking about my own personal experience; I saw it play out in pretty much every single instance over and over again). Administration on that site will not support anyone who is not staunchly anti-ECT, no matter how horribly they are being mistreated by others. This is NOT the place for anyone to go who wants information on both sides of ECT, reasonable unbiased discussion, or respectful discourse about the subject.

I disclose upfront that I have not gone to the link.

However, I am up on the newer science that is very much against ECT. If the site really demeans those who are "for" it well, that's not good.

If DocJohn says he will check the link (as he implied for the thanks for the note) then he will...and if it isn't removed then generally that means he thinks we can handle the information (though sometimes other things interfere and admin don't get to the complaints as fast as a member demands.)

Try to let it go. Don't take it personally, neither the site/link nor that it's still on site.
You went, you read, you complained. Task done.

Yes, the site was re-reviewed and we stand by its inclusion in our depression information about ECT. If you have another ECT resource you'd like to suggest to add in addition to ECT.org, I'm all ears.

That's a shame, honestly. I would hope the references you would provide would be more balanced and not lead unknowing people to a site where they could very likely be abused by the members there, a site with very poor moderation and administration. There is nothing balanced about that website.

NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness - Mental Health Support, Education and Advocacy has a very good article about ECT.

http://www.nami.org/Template.cfm?Sec...ntentID=142939

There are very few, if any, web sites dedicated to just the facts of ECT. This article states the good, the bad, and the ugly of ECT. Most web sites I have looked at just state opinions. I found NAMI to be different than most.

Here is another good article. Again it states facts.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

ECT saved my life. I would hate someone in my situation to go to ect.org and be turned off because of all the opinions expressed there. It is also a very old site that has not been updated in quite some time. I tried some of the links there and got no where.

I appreciate the response from DocJohn. I had no way of knowing that my "community feedback" had been heard and now I do.

Thank you for your time.

There's actually a "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every page, where we read and respond to all editorial feedback on the site. (This forum is primarily meant for the community and community issues, that's why it takes longer and you're not as likely to get a response here about something you read on the site.)

FYI: we actually have about 2 dozen pages on ECT here at Psych Central. I only found one link to ect.org, and that wasn't on any of those pages, but rather in our Resource directory as a listing (the resource directory is where we list all sorts of resources; not just the ones we agree with). You can always submit a new site to be considered for our directory by simply clicking on "Add a Site." A resource editor will review it and, if appropriate, it will be added to the directory in the future.
