Put anything text that you write that might trigger someone else into the "hidden" space, so they won't accidentally be triggered.

Like a PTSD trigger?

Would it be against rules to use this code for "spoiler alerts"?

I know this isn't an entertainment site, but the concept is the same. And the code is there for use....I could just write "Spoiler" above it. Not tiggering I know, but something maybe you don't want to see or read.........

Works perfectly, a lot better to explain BBCode than using HTML Code (which works instead of using the code tag) because it can be used on the same line.

Yep, Tapatalk doesn't support any custom BBCode Still helpful nonetheless as you say.

What's the purpose of this? Sorry, not trying to be purposely obtuse but I'm not sure what its meant to accomplish? Thanks.

I don't get it?

It's to temporarily hide text that might offend someone. Kind of like a "spoiler alert", also something you may not want to see. In this cas, it's to keep people safe.

There are some people on the forums of whom are vulnerable and susceptible to emotional distress from the discussion of particular topics - known as a "trigger" because it can "trigger" negative emotions, intrusive thoughts and so on.

The point of this is so that users can hide a certain part (or all) of a new thread or reply to a thread if they believe it may be a potential trigger/triggering content. We already have the trigger icon, but this is useful if you only want to highlight a certain except of the text as "triggering". When used, the triggering content will be hidden and can be displayed by a reader by them clicking "Show".

You can see an in-depth post about the point of it here: http://forums.psychcentral.com/4311402-post119.html

You nearly got it right. You know where you put "[trigger] trigger [\trigger]"? Well do exactly that, but instead of using "\" at the end like you did, use "/"

[spoiler]spoiler alert[/spoiler]

Can this be used for "spoilers"?

See if that worked. Would it be against the rules to use this code for spoiler alerts?

Just remove the spaces in the first "tag" - between each bracket and the word (:
