I tried to log in from a different computer and couldn't.
It would say username unkown but it wouldn't even let me type one in. I couldn't find an option to log in other than the button to log in, and I couldn't find where to change the username!

Help!

Gee gloria, all I can think of is you didn't type it exactly as you currently are registered? I don't think the name is case sensitive though... maybe you have it remembered on your regular computer and you don't recall it correctly only think so?

I don't have any trouble, no matter which computer I use, and I don't have it remembered on any! (So I am used to always typing the info in.)

I'm curious about this, let me know what you figure out.

it doesn't even let me type in my username. I click on the buttin that say sign in and it goes to the error message directly telling me username error .... what user name? I didn't even type one!
Anyhow, that only happens at that one computer ... beats me.

When you sign in normally, you see two empty boxes (username, and password) and a button underneath that says "sign in" right? (Or something like that, I'm not actually looking at the signin screen).

On the flaky computer, you see the button but there are no boxes for entry, right? And if you just hit the button you get the same error message as you would get if you hit the button on a "working" computer without filling in the boxes?

Those entry boxes are a type of web document called a "form" and maybe possibly the ability to process forms is disabled on that computer. Did you say it was a public computer? Maybe try to go to any other website that asks you to register or something... not to fill it in but to see if the boxes are visible and active, if you can type on them. If not, then that may be disabled, or there is something screwed up on that computer that won't let it display forms.

I figured I won't worry about it. It is a computer at my workplace, so maybe the person that uses it regularly has something set up in it that prevents me from logging in.
That's ok, there are plenty of other options.

Thanks Dex

That could very well be... could even be a company policy that they have set on all the computers (have you tried other computers at your workplace?)

In any case at work I wouldn't push the issue in case they don't like the idea of you trying to log in here from work. Even if you only do it during breaktime or lunch or after punching out... a lot of companies don't like outside access anyway because employees could be using it for activities that aren't the most clean... and it exposes the company to damages. Easiest for them to just lock out all outside access except authorized sites in order to protect themselves.

The company I work for doesn't care. and I can access the forums from other computers at work. The one seems to be the only one I cannot access the forums from.

I won't worry about it.

thanks again

yeah but it's still interesting to try and figure these things out on our own heheheh

so you are saying that when you click on the LOGIN on the top task bar, it takes you directly to an error in sn/password?

>> when you click on the LOGIN on the top task bar, it takes you directly to an error in sn/password?

I was thinking that clicking "Login" at the top brings her to the log in page, but the boxes where you enter the username and password aren't appearing, just the button you press after you would type them in. Since the button is the only thing showing on the page, she clicks that, and it tells her her username is unrecognized, because she didn't enter a username, because the box isn't there.

Maybe my interpretation is wrong.

well it will be interesting to see... if she's clicking on that before the boxes appear, she might just need to wait longer for that page to load right?

hehehe I'm still working on my problems... I cannot even THINK about going into chat... as soon as I hit the CHAT on task bar, it dumps me totally out of the internet. Boots me out of the site and off the net! I'm going to try it again soon... I have just downloaded a microsoft update for the IE service pack downloaded previously. No animations yet either
