Last night my laptop just died on me. Once it was up and running and then all the lights went out and there was nothing. I have taken it to the computer people to try and fix it. I wont know anything until Tuesday. Right now I am using a backup computer that is prone to crashing every time I play games. Not happy.

I have just been looking at new laptops on the net and the price of them does not thrill me. I like my ASUS. Anybody know of other brands that are any good?

Mind you I could be jumping the gun here and they may be able to find a minor problem. Fingers crossed.

It may very well be something simple... power supply maybe or hard drive. Pretty simple fixes.
A year ago I would have recommended Lenovo. I have a 4 core i5 340GHh w/ 8g ram and a 7200rpm hard drive. Not exactly a powerhouse but I don't game so it should be way more than I need. Still seems too slow. Maybe its just getting old or I've developed a tolerance
It's the best machine I've owned so I might still recommend the brand but next time I think I'll build my own.
Hope your problem turns out to be minor.

I am sorry to hear this possum. I understand what you mean about liking your ASUS. I am brand loyal to Apple so I may be biased on this one as all of my technological devices are Apples. I'm currently on an Apple Mac. Which is admittedly a 2008/9 model but running quite well. I like the technical support system at Apple too. They can run software backup and things. I don't know what Apple's policy is where you are, but here in Australia if an appliance plays up it is replaced, free of charge, no question on when it was purchased, no asking of receipt, just simply replaced for free. We have had 2 wireless keyboards on our own main mac pc replaced; a wireless mouse; I've had my iphone charger replaced. I guess that may not sound very good for Apple because it sounds like I'm constantly replacing devices. I am not really. I've just been brand loyal to them since 2008. The pricing might not be that attractive as I am unsure of your pricing range; but I just thought I would let you know I have had good experience with Apple since 2008. I hope others have had the same (if you are Apple Brand Loyal)

[Footnote: I doubt they'd replace my whole Mac oneday ]

Hooligan, I'm with you. All I on are Macs and I can't see a time that I would buy anything different, so I'm biased. As you said they are pricey but are work horses.

Somebody mentioned to me recently that Apple computers are harder to scam/hack. Have you found this to be true?

There was a theory floating around once that they were. They aren't. It's just that hacking is different for the OS and most hackers go with the most popular OS. Also my gf uses Apple and her parents use Apples. I hear that they replace them quite often. The only Apple product I've owned was an iPhone. It was free. I'm not impressed. If I could afford it I'd go back to android. I'm sure there must be something good about Apple other than brilliant marketing.

Huzzar . I have my computer back and it is all okay. The problem was a broken pin. The man at the computer fixer said that it is a common problem with ASUS. They order in replacement 100 of these pins each time. It is the bit that sits in the hole where the converter plugs in. It isn't even a moving part. They don't know why it happens. It just does.

It didn't cost much to fix. I am happy about that. It is amazing haw much the loss of this computer impacted on me.

Other that that I am

for the posts.........
