This has happened many times recently and again tonight..

I get a friend request from a brand new Member, Not a single post, Only info is .. from Pakistan...

Of course I didn't accept.... Is this something that should be reported or just ignored as I have been doing ?

Thanks

I get this too sometimes (get friend requests from people not in my location) I think its because there is a feature in everyone's profile that says...

others like you...

you find that by clicking the tab my profile at the top of the page. then scrolling down the list on the left side.

by clicking on ....others like you... you can see a list of users that have something in common with what you have for your own profile information..

this way members can become friends with those that have something in common with them regardless of location.

you do have the option of not accepting someones friend request and also unfriending someone you dont want to have on your friends list.

when someone sends me a friend request I check out their profile and posts to decide if I want to add them. if they have nothing it usually means they just registered and are looking for others like them. I accept those requests but dont always keep those on my friends listings depending upon what their future posts and profile end up being, if they constantly post things that are triggering to me thats a red flag for removing them from my friends list.

I have had a few requests from new members that I do not know and that I do not see actively posting around the forums. I decline these requests.

What does the friend feature mean anyway? Cant anyone write on your profile etc? I get a heap of random friend requests too. I do tend to accept the ones that have posts but not the ones who dont - although I think they can still see everything anyway?

when you follow the directions in my post above it will bring you to the friend feature (aka a link that says "others like you") this is what I call the friend feature because it shows all that are registered that have similar things marked in their profiles. you can click on their name and it will bring you to their profile where you can click befriend this member. in other words send a friend request. kind of like facebook has a friend request psych central has the others like you then befriend this member.

my understanding is you can write on anyones "visitor message" that is on their profile ....if....they do not have that turned off. sometimes members turn off their visitor messages. so the other options for contacting someone is by replying to a post on the boards or by sending them a private message.

those that dont post or are not members can see what you post on the boards.

those that are not members or members that are not logged in, are not able to see your profile therefore not able to post on your visitor message profile.
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
