Is there a social group on here called "I am Catholic" or something like that? It seems that I found it once, but can't find it again.

Click on "My Profile" in the upper left corner of your screen. Then cursor down until you see the "Networking" heading in the left column. Under "Networking" click on "Social Groups." There are many pages of Social Groups that one can join here at PC. In the bottom right-hand corner you are able to click on an arrow that will take you through the listing. Keep looking until you find "I Am Catholic." Then, click to join and/or request membership.

if you have trouble screening thru multiple listings (as i do), use the "Search" feature at the top of every forum and group...

I read somewhere that if a member who started a social group or chat deletes their account that social group/chat is discontinued/deleted also. maybe thats what happened.
