Hmm... Can I make a thread only visible to certain people, or only people that are logged in? Just curious, as it would make a process with a possible new thread I've been thinking about easier.

but what you can do is create a group and then just invite those you want to the group and post your thread their

You can make your group private and invite only those you want in it. Or you can make it open or people can apply to join. And when you have 24 members you can have your own private forum. I believe non-members cannot see the posts if it is a private group, tho they do appear on the main "new posts" page.

I thought it was 20 members to create a forum from a social GROUP? Or maybe it was 25, and the group has to be in existence 3 months.

By threads, do you mean a forum as part of a social group? I do know you have to be in the group to post in the forum.

Social Groups can be private or public. You can also set your group, if you mean a social group that is, so that only members can view the posts.

You can make it "invite only" or "moderated"--those two allow you control on members that join.

If you mean a chat room, regarding 5 members needed, then that's something else I don't know about, LOL.

It's for my more personal poems and thoughts, and for others to share theirs as well. VS, I know about this because I started a private group not too long ago. You get the forum option at 24 members. Before that tho, there is a general area that all posters can post in, I assume as soon as you open the group.

I'd like to join your poem group too! I might post some of my own if you don't mind.

Can someone explain what is meant by 5 people needed for a THREAD?? I see threads in the forums with no replies, but it's still a "thread."

Do you all mean a SOCIAL GROUP? If so, I thought you need at least 25 members to create a forum, which allows you to create a THREAD. Also, the group needs to be in existence at least 3 months.

I thought a Social Group is created as soon as one clicks "Create group." I have several groups, and as soon as I did that, it appeared as a group even though I was, at the time, the only member. I still don't understand what you mean by needing 3 people for a group, but I have many people now anyway.

Okay, I thought you can't make a thread without a FORUM. And I understand that to do that, you need 25 members & the group needs to be in existence 3 months, unless they changed that rule. It was awhile ago that I read that.

I'm asking in case I want to do that in one of my groups.

You don't need a minimum number of people to create a social group.

You do need a minimum of 25 social group members in order for that social group to create it's own forum. (I think the OP was referring to a social group forum, but was using the word "thread" instead to describe his need or desire just to have a private place to post his thoughts.)

If you want someplace truly private that no one else can access, simply send yourself PMs. That way they will be there only for you and your use.

Thanks nonightowl and DocJohn for your insight, glad that it clears things up, so this topic I think is good now, if anyone is interested in joining my thread (which is for poems) PM me. ^_^ And thanks for the tip Docjohn, I'm just looking for a way to prevent people whom don't have a account, or that are likely people I don't want to see it (like family members) not to be able to search one of my poems and come up with this site (I tried it, and poems that are in a message in a group, and possibly a thread too, don't come up xD thank goodness)

I know I probably ran this topic into the ground, but this is what I got from it :

You DO NOT need 3 people to start a Social Group, but I think 3 is a good number to have a good conversation going. 2 would be minimum to call it a "group" (including the owner of group) or you're talking to yourself. LOL

You DO need 25 people to create a FORUM, which you need to create a "thread." (Just like any thread on PC)

If the group is private, so is the forum.
