This is about the "Welcome, [username]. You last visited: Today at [time]".

(What now? I thought it was right today, only a few minutes ago, and now it's not.)

I would appreciate some technical information, please

I have a couple of questions in mind. Is it in the timezone that I set in the option somewhere?

My laptop is quite old and I tend to restart browser during the course of the day, and in the way I set up things here, the browser cache is cleared, and cookies are safe and intact when I restart it again. And I usually use only one browser on my laptop, no multiple logging in(s).

So the second question is, about the timeout and does it have anything to do with the browser cache? Not the cookies, although it could be corrupted by now...

I'm having trouble seeing it not accurate enough, how does the 'last' visited time is recorded and showen to each users?

the last visited time does display as the time set in your options

i'm sset to UK time, and it's always displayed like that for me.

not sure about your second question though, though i imagine it's built in to the system.. stay idle long enough, and you'll be timed out
(which is also probably why in the new topic area, it suggests not to write long messages directly on the site), rather in word or something.

hope this helps
Thanks for this!

as far as I know you cant disable the time stamp. (cant find any info on it in FAQ). I just always thought it was part of how this site keeps posts in order of when they are posted. (theres a time stamp on every post just above the members name on all the posts.) sometimes though the time stamps on the posts dont match when the post is seen on the boards. example when someone sends their post in to a moderator before it goes on the boards the time stamp reflects what time the poster ...wrote ....the post according to their own locations time zone. but it may appear at any time on the boards if you decide to send in the post to a moderator first. even though some of my posts that I send in to a moderator appears on the boards a few minutes to hours later the post still appears in order of the time stamp in reference to other posts.

my point just a way to keep all the posts in order of when they were posted.

i have been on other sites where they did not use time stamping and you end up with all the posts out of order. you may end up with a post wrote two minutes ago way down pages later and one wrote 30 minutes ago at the top and one wrote an hour ago in the middle of the page somewhere.

I love how psych central has the posts in order of when they were wrote. its easier to follow the train of the threads this way. no hunting for which was first who is talking about what so wheres the answer to this in that post and well you get the point.
Thanks for this!

we are not talking about the forums, Amanda, but about our HOME page, where it tells everyone (sometimes) when you were last logged in.

some people have it, some don't,, some can see it, some can't,,
it's aggravating~!~
Thanks for this!

yes I understand what you are talking about. like I already said I just thought the last time you visited was part of the rest of the time stamps. you know like one whole clock system working together on the server.
Thanks for this!

Gus, I don't think mine shows on my page because I stay invisible. So maybe signing in in invisible mode might work for you?

what amazes me is that SOME people can see when i was here last,
and SOME cannot~! (how can that be ??)

(but thanks for the thought~ it was a good one)

just a tip even if you are signed in as invisible and in those cases where it doesnt say when a person had last visited members can still know when a person last visited if that member has posted.

for example if my profile doesnt have a last visited clock on it then all other people need to do is click on find more posts. they will see when I last posted. so of course the assumption is well amandalouise posted yesterday so thats probably the last time she logged in.

I thought of another reason why there may be a last time you visited clock...mental disorders can mess up a persons sense of time, as can medications. having a clock system on a website helps those with memory problems and sense of time problems to know when their posts are made, did they log on yesterday or was it a dream or hallucination, ...

You would wanna truly invisible, I understand that, not just for SOME. You have been using that cloak too long, now people can find you, time for dry cleaning.

So here's what I'm experiencing right now, my time stamp on the upper right corner saids: You last visited: Today at 05:09

And the time now is 10:09, and I'm pretty sure I closed the browser between now and then a couple of times already, let me properly clear the cache, come back and edit.

Edited to add:

Ta-da. The time stamp still saids 05:09. It hasn't changed, and probably like some of you guys, I don't log off when I close the browser. And then at some point, the time stamp get changed, I never log off from the site, I still wanna know though, the spec. An hour, or two hours?

I just get the feeling that the clock in my head is way off to think I'm right, nobody felt the same way as me though? The time, I don't think it's organic enough for my liking!

hmm,,, so the conclusion that I can draw from this is that the timeout setting is definitely more than 5 hrs, it's not intended to be used for my keeping track of the time, because I don't bother logging off.
