I don't think I would have much to say in such a forum. And I am not a student anymore so it is not a a school issue. Nevertheless it was HELL being gifted, you were basically treated as a leper. Think about it, say the below average were the norm and you as of normal intelligence would have to always follow their ideas and not say a word about what you are thinking because if you did you were seen as a freak. IT IS HARD.

Also I lost two of my really smart Internet friends, people who challenged me and were smarter than me. It is a personal loss but also a hole in my life since it is much harder to find stimulation alone (One of my friends died and the other got very ill and decided to not be online anymore).

People assume people who are gifted are full of themselves. But I often see the opposite, I see people who are broken down because they never fit in and never found a home in this world.

To people commenting on my earlier post:
I have nothing against those who are gifted. I was trying to be helpful in suggesting a MENSA forum because it's filled with people with high IQ. I am not really sure how I suddenly became "insecure" or trying to limit topics because of that. However, again, high IQ has nothing to do with mental illness which is the main topic of this forum. Therefore, is no need to place a sub forum here. That does not limit one from creating a social group as some have suggested. I just don't think it warrants a sub-forum which is what the original post was about.

I'm so glad to learn that we're all so gifted; this will no doubt compensate for our all being so tragically flawed.

I think the OP could make a thread in the Relationships forum asking people who have been labeled "Gifted" to chime in so they can share and compare experiences. Yeah, some people get defensive when they hear someone else is gifted or whatever. Being "Gifted" in my opinion means you had a high start potential, but it doesn't reflect on your position in life or what kind of person you are. It just means you have a certain talent for something, basically. It's like, forgive the analogy, people who can wiggle their ears versus those of us that can't. It doesn't make them better or worse, it's just something they were born with that we weren't. Same difference between men and women's genitalia.

I also think though, that the OP could broaden their perspective to include input from non-
gifteds" because it's about the experience and the emotions that come from the experience, and I think a lot of people could identify with those emotions and those situations and it's an opportunity to come together and realize we are all the same, rather than continue to point out our differences.

Either way, if you're in Mensa, that's pretty cool. Good for you.
