All I see in the chat window is white.

I'm on Firefox, which it has previously worked just fine on, until this issue came about around a month or two ago. I'm on Linux (Kubuntu) with nothing particularly bizarre on it. No bizarre Firefox addons, just NoScript and Adblock, neither of which seem to make a difference where chat's concerned. :\ (I thought that might be it) I seem to have Flash working just fine as Netflix has no issues. System is up-to-date. When I click on one of the room names from the "Chat" drop-down menu, the other one works fine. Oh, and I tried clearing the cache.

Any ideas?

I've noticed at least one other person having issues with chat. Is there a known issue going on right now?

Thanks for any replies.

There is no known issue in chat, since it hasn't been updated or in any way changed for the past 2+ years. What happens is whenever browsers or plugins update their software, the company doing the updating can make changes that impact its compatibility with older pieces of software such as our chat rooms. Often this has to do with security, but it could be cookies or some other setting that is hard to figure out what needs to be reset or changed back to the way it was.

Oh, and an update of a computer's malware or virus detection system can also cause these problems, since they aren't always accurate in terms of determining a true threat from something that is just not something a lot of their users do (use chat software that isn't on Facebook or the like). So such software might mark the chat system as a possible threat and block access to it.

Unfortunately, there's no easy answer to these issues when they arise. While our intention is to change over the chat system to something that is supported moving forward, this doesn't have a definite timeline yet (hopefully by year's end is all I can say).

Best,
DocJohn

I do have a firewall but it's stayed pretty much the same for the past year or so. I'm aware of the software updates causing issues, potentially with older stuff, and can definitely appreciate the security concerns with using outdated software. I think I'll just stick with the one that does work until y'all manage to update. Thanks for the hard work.

Also, please look for that PM I sent you ages ago. lol

I cannot fully use the site through firefox. If I want to use chat or the game arcade fully without glitches, I MUST sign in on Edge.

I am having the same issue with FLash Chat on my work computer. It just shows a blank white screen and won't load. And I use Chrome.

When I got a new laptop the flash chat wasn't working for me at first (I use Chrome). I downloaded the latest flash client and that helped to fix it.

What do you mean downloaded the latest flash client? I have never had to download anything before to use Flash Chat. I just click on Flash Chat.

I "sort of" documented the process of getting Chat to work on Chrome in another thread. Copied and pasted below.

Quote:
My guess is that your Chrome Browser recently updated. Often when browsers update these settings are reset to default. I just tested it on Chrome and was able to get in following the steps below (roughly, I just got up and my coffee is still brewing).

When you click on flashchat, your browser should open another window. In the top left is a attention icon, if you click on in it it will tell you that the site might not be secure or something like that, you can either open a list of plugins, (or it was open immediately) look for the flash plug in, in the options you can "Allow always on this site". Click that and the plug in will load.
