this one is so clunky, just patching it up here and there won't be enough~!
it staggers and hangs, and is just clunky; doesn't tell who's coming or going, hard to see, find and use, and generally not easy to use....

i know you did a lot of hard work to get us a chat engine at all, and i'm glad we have a way to meet live,,, but oh~!! it's SOOOOO HARD~!

thanks,,

Please, Please Please, don't stop looking for a better chat engine~!

It's early days yet. Hopefully it'll improve over time. Personally, I've had no issues with it. Could it be your browser? You could try another browser, just as a test, to see if there are the same issues. Look for any settings for it in chat; I haven't used it much so I'm not sure myself, but there might be a way to change the notifications.

I agree, this chat has turned out not to be as good as it looked when testing it on their own site. Technical support has been useless for it, too. I am not happy.

We could always go back to the last set of chatrooms if that is preferred.

We have spent an enormous amount of time reviewing and vetting chat room systems. Sadly, there is very little out there that looks like it has everything we're looking for in a chatroom. I guess apps and Facebook has killed the market for such forum- or website-connected chat software.

We'll keep looking...

I don't mean this in a bad way, but I don't think that the issue is with the chat system so much as this web site itself.

From what I have noticed, it is likely that the web layout of PC is a bit dated, which would in turn, make it more difficult to integrate a newer chat engine into it without making the whole website seem rather clunky.

Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for this site and I know that it can be hard to obtain the funding necessary to hire web developers as a non profit so I never complain about it; I just felt it relevant to point it out is all.

Perhaps, when I gain more experience as a web developer, I would be willing to help out any way that I can.

Thanks for your suggestions...

However, the forums and chat software have little/no connection to one another. The design isn't related to the performance and other issues we're experiencing in chat. We can integrate pretty much anything into the forums.

And we are not a non-profit. Psych Central is a commercial website. We have a related entity that is a non-profit, but it is only setup to administer our community grant program.

I do not believe rolling the chat software back is preferable. I think the best solution is to retain this one and continue to look for a better client.

Personally, I'd prefer to roll back to the previous chat, if that's not what everyone else prefers, then that's also fine.

I do find achat incredibly irritating, but I'm not a majority, heck, I might just be a loud minority. Between the lag, the missing chat messages, and the constant refreshing...

And yeah, it doesn't look like there are many chat rooms. Beyond Discord, which I'm going to assume was a no. (although it does have a web widget). Most of them are customer service clients, and the only other one like achat is cometchat which is virtually identical, but more expensive.

Whatever course of action you take doc, I'll be fine with it.

I agree with Ty, that it's making chatting really difficult, because of the lags and the refreshing, and the flood limit. I do think this is worse than the old chat, but I don't think we should roll back. Just keep looking for something better. I know it's hard. Thank you for the work you do to connect us all as peers. I don't know what I'd have done without this community the past few years.

I'm really enjoying the chat room but the glitches can be a little cumbersome.

I never got to try the previous software so can't comment on that, but please keep looking for a better alternative.

Thanks for this awesome community btw.
