many ppl are complaining in chat about what they don't like!! take a minute to say what you do and don't like about chat. What we don't know we can't attempt to fix.

thanks, tams

I don't generally like chatting. It's usually too fast to chat and do something else between messages, and too slow (and thus 'boring') to just chat and stare at your screen waiting for the next messages.

I'd like to participate in the support chats - particulary the Depression and Anxiety one, and maybe the Q&A with DocJohn - but that's not possible because as a result of time zone differences, they take place in the middle of the night.

Right now there are so few chatters that it doesn't make much sense having so many rooms. Why not just have one chat until chat gets bigger, where you are allowed to talk both about serious and non serious things?

I agree with this.

their have been many times where I've wanted to take part in the bipolar and anxiety chats, but like you, time zones...

i'd personally like to see 2 chats a week on any given topic

example:

the regular anxiety chat on 1 day, and then on another day, another anxiety chat held at a different time for those members that can't actually attend the first one for what ever reason (it would help people in the different time zones, that's for sure!)

another thing i'd like to see is a choice of chat system.

I don't know how possible this is, but the option to choose between the new or old chat system.

some people may not get on with the old one, and like the new one- or in reverse. it would be nice to give people the option to choose how they'd like to chat

The unfortunate fact, every time a chat software is changed, some people decide to stop chatting.

that's me, jimi,,, just don't care for the new chat: format, speed, freezing, finding, remembering, no visual cues of entering room,,, etc. all make it too hard to be fun.... but, it's better than NO CHAT~!!!

My issues probably won't be resolved unless the software is changed again and I feel bad even saying that because all of you went through so much trouble to give us what we have now. The main thing is the freezing. I stop seeing other people's messages and sometimes my own out of nowhere. So I'm constantly having to ask myself "am I froze or is everyone just quiet?" Then there's the issue of when I pm it kicks me out of the room.

I don't know much about the other systems and what's available in another chat I used to go to they used old fashioned java. The kind where you could use text color and a background color (that's just the easiest feature to describe, not necessarily its most redeeming quality). I really liked that, but again it's understandable that you don't want to change the software again....

I agree also about not having so many rooms. Ive always thought there should just be one big room instead of just branching them off like that. I don't think it's fair when someone gets told to go to a separate room just because you don't like what they're saying. That's what ignore is for-In life topics change and if we aren't interested we either talk amongst ourselves or come back when it's changed. After all, we're all here for the same thing-mental health support.

the idea behind having what 4 dedicated chat rooms is that each one is meant for something different. Say coffeehouse where most ppl are is meant for non MH dicussion and easygoing chat. In ES you are more apt to seek support and Adult more grown up discussion that some members don't want to take part in. The auditorium is self explanatory . Each room all 4 of them has the intent stated when they are used correctly things will probably go along easy, we don't have to have big numbers in rooms for them to work as intended.
I have the same concerns you do about chat freezing and dropping, reloading etc. but i think it is slightly better than the early days.
thanks be well,
tams

Glitchy and annoying when you don't get responses. Too many people sitting idle and not enough people caring what others say. Sorry, I just had a bad experience on chat tonight and left because no one even bothered to respond to me saying hello.

chances are, eve, that they weren't even there. the old chat would mark you as 'inactive' after a half hour of no input, but this one doesn't even sign people out when they leave~!

I think 4 dedicated rooms is a good thing. Not all topics are appropriate for all rooms, and "one big room" would be problematic. I also have no problem with people bringing up inappropriate topics discussions in one room being told that is not ppropriate for the current room.

I understand why there are 4 rooms. Maybe what I should be asking is if there's a way to make it so people on mobile can be in more than one room. Sometimes it seems like there aren't many in emotional support and some have said they can only be in one room at a time.

I don't think that is possible. As you can only be in one place at a time I would think that wouldn't be a high priority given all the troubles we have right now, but that concern is noted.
Thanks, tams

Even on the computer, one can't really ENGAGE in more than one room at a time, or in a room and a PM at the same time. It can be frustrating, but... I honestly think NO chat is ever going to be perfect.
