I've tried to drag-n-drop from giphy and I've tried including the link within the "image" html code thingie... I can get it to work if I include it as an attachment but how do I just get the thing to post in the content of the message?

OP, click the square icon above your text box that has a mountain a sun. Then copy and paste the link of your image into that. It should put a code in your message box and show up when you post it.

it's good to search in the tutorial sticky notes.
if you want to post something from your puter to PC, you have to upload it into an album, then use the album address for the URL (address).

note: albums have a limited capacity, and if you delete a pic or gif from there, it will vanish from PC's threads.

I recommend an external image host. If you use it as logged in, you can delete the image whenever you want, and it is gone from the forum for good.

You can also use them not logged in, but then you have less control.

I prefer Postimage, but image hosts is a matter of taste. http://postimages.org/

If you use it as non logged in, you just choose image. That is from your computer. You let it upload.

You just put the direct link into the img tags to show the image on here (we have the shortcut button for it on here).

I admit I hotlink quite a bit as well.. Ho hum.

On Postimage you also get a delete link you can use even for not being logged in. But then you have to save that.
