I am experiencing a strange persistent chiming sound from my computer and ended up closing all apps, notification sounds and even rebooting, it was driving me mad as there was no other visual indicator of where it was coming from. Eventually I narrowed it down to the fact that it only happens when I'm here. I thought at first it must be chat notifications so have disabled sound in Messenger but am still getting these annoying sounds, where are they coming from and how do I disable this? It's extremely irritating!

Click on the "Chat Rooms" link on the bottom of the screen, click on the gear icon, and make sure there's no check mark on "Chat Room Sounds." (Click on it to turn off the checkmark).
Click on the "Chat (0)" link on the bottom of the screen, click on the gear icon, and make sure there's no check mark on "Chat Sounds."

Ok - thanks - didn't even notice the one at the bottom. Maybe for us newbies it might be worth making it more obvious or even having sound off as the default? (I admit I was probably being inattentive but I suspect that's not unusual in a forum like this). I really thought there was something wrong with my system.
