Fishin fool, the whole social group format5 seems to have changed. I'm still a member of all the ones I joined, but all the old posts are gone.
Thanks for this!

It looks different I agree! I can't stand change, and I'm dealing with a lot in my life now. It looks like they made it so the ones with new posts are in boldface, but the listings look different. Apparently you can subscribe to them, like with a thread. I hope the old posts aren't gone!!! All that history and all the time everyone spent typing it? Hopefully it will come back! I got notifications someone wanted to join my group, but I didn't see who they are cause I didn't get the usual screen.

They are working on it it seems, as last week it had all these question marks and a field for "category". I don't know if I'm supposed to select a category for the ones I created or what. I'm confused, so I decided to wait awhile before looking at it again.

It shows last updated 12/2 at 5:14 a.m. when I'm still in bed, LOL. It's not the last post, it's the last time they did something.

I found the old posts, but I had to click on the group twice or something. It's showing as a "discussion" and it has a button to create a new discussion too. Also, the oldest posts from the group's creation appear first, not the most recent. It's too much for me now. I have to wait a bit...too much change all at once.

I was going to ask you if you noticed, Liz. You read my mind.

I can't figure it out. It was fine the way it was.

Thanks Doc John.

Folks, all the old posts are still there. They appear under the first title.

Owl, I felt like you when I thought all the old posts were gone... all that work and info gone for good. It's still there! Also agree with your comment about change. Normally I'm a go with the flow sort of person, but I have all kinds of er "stuff" going on in my personal and work life. I was peeved to find changes in the social groups.

I don't like the changes either. Why were they deemed needed? We're creatures of habit and don't need any more frustrations in our lives, DocJohn.

We needed to update the software to keep up with the security updates to our community and to support newer versions of the platform that runs the forums. Old stuff doesn't support newer security updates (they need to stop updating it at some point to focus on the new stuff), so it leaves us potentially with software or platforms with security holes in them. It's the same reason most people don't run Windows XP any longer...

Unfortunately, software updates bring along changes to features already in use, or additional features. We can't fix the fact that the authors of the software decided to redo how the social groups work, unfortunately. Sorry.

There's a couple of things I like about the new format. For one thing, all of the groups I created appear in a separate section, with a summary of each group with stuff like number of members, number of posts, etc. This is convenient, to see what I created in a different place.

I also like how it works like a forum now, as the social groups with new posts since my last post or view now appear in boldface. (This is just in my subscribed threads, those with new activity are in boldface) I, and other members, requested a way to get "notifications" of new activity in the groups. At that time, the software didn't support it. Now, it looks like you can "subscribe" to a group or create a new discussion and follow it, like a thread.

Hopefully, the activity in social groups will pick up now. Most of them haven't had activity in months, sometimes YEARS.

I miss how I used to be able to see the "main" (what I call it) list of social groups. You could sort by name of group, date created, number of members, etc. That's what I used to refer to to see if any of my groups had activity, as I could see the last post. But now that they seem to be in boldface, I don't need to do that now. Still, I miss seeing ALL groups, no matter how old or how long ago they got created.

I also miss how it used to say "Your social group host", which sounded friendlier than "Group maintained by _______".

New groups are shown at the right, but all the other ones in existence aren't visible unless you search I guess. There are dozens and dozens of groups.

Folks, to get to the most recent posts, you have to scroll down to the bottom and click on "last page". The default is the oldest posts first, some almost 10 years old now...You do this after you click on the first "discussion" which is actually the group itself.

I've had too much turmoil in my life recently, and I'm reeling from sudden and traumatic changes. At some point, I'll check out the new format but I need stability and familiarity now... even online.

I'm glad I don't see those question marks anymore. That freaked me out. My black cat avatar is back again too.

That's my 2 cents folks.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
