For example, "Junior Member".

How many ranks are there? Would like to know.

on the subject of ranks, I have always wondered why we have them.

on another forum I used to be on, they just told you how many posts you had, but not any ranks

I don't think the ranks are a bad idea, I just wonder if their's an actual reason behind it- especially as things like elder, has absolutely nothing to do with mental health

if I came to this forum for the first time I saw someone with the rank elder, I'd probably think it was either a gaming forum or a religious forum

Forum ranks are typically used as an indicator of that users experience / engagement with that particular community. IMHO, they're not really meant to be taken too seriously (though, it has to said that I've never been that inclined to take rank too seriously IRL - you are are your actions, rather than a title...). Depending on the forum, rank may relate to post count, length of membership, or to recognize other actions (like fundraising, or similar).

The elder moniker doesn't necessarily carry religious connotations & the poobah rank is more a playful nod to the realm of Gilbert & Sullivan.

I hearby recognize Fuzzy as 'The wisest elder ever'...

I dont pay any attention to the "ranks" they dont say whether a person is more important over another just that if you make so many posts your "rank" changes to another one.

I have noticed sometimes the "ranking" bothers new members. some may feel that someone with a higher ranking is more popular or deserving of help then others with a lower one, or a high ranking is saying those people are better than they may be...

bottom line all it is, is putting a name to how many posts a person makes, someone can sit in games and end up with a title of wise elder with out even posting to those asking for help with their mental issues. doesnt say anything about the members with higher ranking.

to me it just makes the profiles "pretty" decorative what ever to have a ranking that is saying the same thing as having on the profiles a number of posts a person made. not something I pay attention to,

I give a beginning member the same support and help that I do with someone who's ranking is wise or legendary elder poster. to me no one is more important or more deserving of help than others here.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
