The keyboard and mouse are both disabled on my desktop computer, thus I cannot even access the monitor now to get into the computer to trouble shoot.

Any ideas? I don't have any other keyboard/mouse to try... I'm sure it's a glitch within the cpu.

*Please note this is a non-technical reply ie. I know nothing about computers other than that it is very temperamental.*

Switch off computer, and check everything is plugged in, then switch it back on again.

(Works for me... keyboard and mouse quit on desktop)

sky, im all that up on computers but i have one idea !!!!
does you keyboard have a usb plug ? if so have you tried pluging that in to a spare usb port (if you have one spare ?)
if that doesnt work maybe you could borrow a keyboard from someone and check its not just the mouse and keyboard deciding to give up the ghost together !!!!!
sorry if that sounds dumb, but like i said im not up to date with computers just now..............

good luck sky

I think it is sick keyboard and mouse quit on desktop Something took it out. I bought a generic hub for the desk top so I wouldn't have to be futzing with plugging usb's into the front, back etc all the time... so maybe that did it IDK keyboard and mouse quit on desktop (it shouldn't have lol

Do you have the original CD or recovery cd's? I have no idea if that would do anything, but it might be worth a try?

Are you using Windows XP?

I was going to suggest you try the On-Screen Keyboard but you'd still need your mouse. keyboard and mouse quit on desktop

That was a good idea, but doesn't work. The plug in area is for a projector it looks like keyboard and mouse quit on desktop BUT when the desktop was booted, the lights on both the monitor and keyboard flashed, so they were recognized.

It's the cpu I guess. It has 6 months left on the extended warranty, but I can't think of where I keep those things. keyboard and mouse quit on desktop

I have 2 large binders of instruction manuals etc for everything I've bought... and many of those have the sales slips etc... but somehow they are out of place in the binders (can't imagine why this would be, as if the contractor would open the binder and take something??? keyboard and mouse quit on desktop)

Now I'm in a pain flare from moving the desktop and unplugging it and all... put my sacrum way out and it's impinging upon my right sciatic nerve. keyboard and mouse quit on desktop Working at not allowing the stress of the moment add to this. keyboard and mouse quit on desktop

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't know why the sellers of the warranty don't have it in their files (not until you use it?) keyboard and mouse quit on desktop I'm too organized for this to happen, not be able to find the warranty info. keyboard and mouse quit on desktop Oh well. sigh.

When did you do anything with that? During this time we're speaking of? Did you get that all working fine?

When did the keyboard and mouse quit? Were you using the computer at the time? Did you turn it on and they just weren't working? Did one quit and then the other or were neither one working? Keyboard and mouse don't have anything in common so it's very odd they quit together.

Did you recently install any new programs or hardware?

Nothing has worked since I first posted.

I had done a few updating right before it quit midstream.(Nothing earthshattering, Open Office update, and something similar I think.) I was observing my ebay sale keyboard and mouse quit on desktop when the monitor went blank, and the keyboard nor mouse would bring up a page.

The cpu, when turned on does access the keyboard and the monitor, as the monitor alerts with being on saving power mode. Now that I've unplugged everything, the monitor blocks across to check cable. keyboard and mouse quit on desktop
