Similar to many social media sites, we're trying out a new feature called user tagging. This allows you to "tag" another member in a post, if you want to draw their attention to it because you think they specifically can add to the thread, or the reply is directed at them specifically.

It is simple to use, just put an @ sign before a person's username, and that's all there is to it.

Like this:

Hey @FooZe, do you like this new feature? Let us know...

Thanks and feel free to give it a try in this thread (you can tag me in it, I won't mind...).

Interesting feature!

I tried out the new feature with my friend... both of us got notifications but when we clicked on them our profiles had no link to the mention. I also noticed a quote feature too but it had the same problem.

I did however notice the fact I mentioned them shows up on my profile under the new tab but that seems counterintuitive. Should be the other way around.

@Loial, there are actually two new tabs on our profiles. As I understand it, "Thread Tags" lists when we've mentioned someone else; "Mentions" lists when they've mentioned us.

After I submit this, I'll check my profile to make sure they work the way I think they do.

------------------
Edited to add: It took a few minutes but now both taggings, the one where DocJohn tagged me and the one where I tagged Loial, show up under my Notifications tab. I still don't see the latter one anywhere on Loial's profile.

Thanks FooZe. I don’t know what’s changed but mentions and quotes are now showing up in my profile and working.

I think there's a small delay in posting something with a mention/user tagging and it showing up in the stats. May be a minute or two...

How can you turn it off? It is horrible. I don't want a notification every time someone quotes me. It screws up private message notification as well because it looks like there is a private message but instead it is merely that you were quoted. I also got an email that I had been quoted. I find it horrible. I don't want this sort of intrusion.
Please at least give us the option to turn this off.

I agree with the above.. is there an option to turn this off? I do not wish to receive an email if someone quotes me.

The quote feature notification has been turned off completely. It was too much.

Email notifications have also been turned off.

I am not on any social media, so maybe this is why - but I truly don't see the point of this. I read the first post and still don't understand how or why anyone would do this. (This is not a complaint about it now that the emails have been turned off - just a true I don't know what it does that is useful)

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
