I am interested in changing the way I get notified of new posts for threads I'm subscribed to, as I often will see new activity quicker if my notifications come through email rather than through my profile alone.

Could anybody direct me on how to do this either in my profile, subscriptions, or settings?

In the bar across the top of any forums page, click on My Profile.

In the left column, find Edit Options and click on it. Clicking on the link here should do the same thing.

Scroll down to Messaging & Notification > Default Thread Subscription Mode

When you're satisfied with your selection, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save Changes.

Edited to add: Also, on your Subscriptions page you can designate what kind of notifications you want for individual threads. Check the boxes for the threads you want to change, then in the pulldown menu at the bottom, select the new notification method for the threads you've checked.
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
