hi seems that Chat and Forums are locking up at the same times. Is this maybe a server issue? We all have tried clearing our cache and cookies and this doesn't change the site from locking up for everyone at the same time. It just isn't an individual problem, it happens to all of us at the same time.
Any ideas?

I have also had issues with the forums and chat locking up. They go into constant refresh mode. I tried clearing my cache but it has not helped. Thanks

The good side of the lock ups is I had no excuse to not get up and get things done around my house lol

Silver lining for me I suppose.

I have this problem too
even though it's not for long, it is annoying

(and it takes ages to come back, too.)

like today it locked up on me while I was viewing the coping with emotions board, I went to another site (a tv guide site) to check the listings, but when I tried to go back here, it took absolutely ages to load the index again.

Chat has been locking up so often that it is hard to have scheduled chats with members. It can take up to 5 minutes to reload the page and get back to the conversation. I do hope we have a solution soon!
forever reloading, Tams

I'm not using chat but the forum is freezing so much today that i can hardly use it. When is this going to be fixed? I don't have problems on any other website.

I don't think it's very helpful or constructive to say that "people are leaving the site" because of an occasional technical issue or problem loading a page.

We last replaced the servers with brand new ones at the end of 2017. So they are a year and a half old, too new to be looking to replace again this year. We don't have a budget to replace the community servers (it uses two) any more than every three years.

Chat is the cause of most of the problems related to the server. It is a super-intensive resource hog and everything we've tried to help with it has not helped. We've brought in outside consultants. Nothing has helped. We've spent considerable time and resources troubleshooting it, to no avail.

In short, we're left with very few good options. As usual, there are no really good chat products available that don't have similar problems (or other issues). Chat needs to work as well on mobile as it does on the forums, and integrate with our existing user database. This eliminates many products on the market.

We'll continue to research the options, but in the meantime, we're doing the best we can with the limited resources we have to work with. Sorry.

I haven't had any issues with the forum freezing up since chat was temporarily disabled, as per a recent thread by DocJohn.

Hey Doc, why don't you create a Discord server specifically for psychcentral users? I know there's The Haven, but it's pretty big, and it isn't the same community.

You can send the discord link in a Welcome message to members, so that way only existing members can access the Discord server.
Thanks for this!

/\ Same. Not a user of chat, but can barely get forums and/or threads to load.

Deep-scan, file cleanup and disc optimisation/defrag is done to my devices on the daily, but even logging out & back into PC doesn't always work. Perversely enough, am glad to know it's not just me with the difficulties. Shall try to possess my soul in patience.
