While I know you can see who's in chat by clicking that... why aren't they included in the listing of Who's online? They are online, they are on site, so to speak...

Maybe it could show they are in chat... what's the difference, unless they want to be invisible and they don't show anywhere?

Also, why not let someone know they have received a site PM while in chat (not a chat msg)? That way, someone won't have to go into chat to contact someone, nor would someone waiting for another to come online but not wishing to meet them in chat, have to keep "leaving" the chat room to check and see if they are online/on site yet.

Sky,

I am sure that somebody will answer you who actually knows something, but the way I understand it, the chat room is actually a separate program from the rest of the site, and that is why people in chat don't show on who's online and why site PM's don't show up in the chat room. As far as I understand, it would be a pretty complicated maneuver to make the things happen that you are suggesting, although it would really be nice. DocJohn is very talented - maybe he will eventually figure out a way to do just that.

If you are good at multi-tasking, you can be in chat and on the site at the same time. I usually make my chat window long and narrow and give that the left side of the screen, have the rest of the site going on the right side of the screen. But if chat is very active, it's all I can do just to keep up there, and I don't do much with the other side of the screen. So, you don't actually have to leave chat to see who is online. In fact, who's online actually refreshes automatically, so all you have to do is leave that up if you are waiting for someone.

btw did you see the recent research evidence of multi tasking causing delayed brain usage later in life? Like we screw up the nerve access' or something and burn them out or something and it brings on senility earlier.

You? Try responding to posts on a message board while watching Nick at Night and TV Land while thinking of words that rhyme with Nazarene while constantly pushing away the ever intruding thoughts of eating chocolate when I'm done here while knowing full well that I should be asleep right now while doing q 2-3 minute spider checks on the floor under my feet (computer's in the basement) (there were 2 HUGE ones last week, but I think they jumped out of a bag of corn straight from the farm that was brought down here a couple hours before I saw them or from a leaf blower or whatever it is because I saw the same huge fat black one a few weeks ago after that thing had been outside all day. Oh, God, are they living in there?) Crap, now I have to disassemble that thing with my free hand. I still want candy.

Ozzie,

As if I don't have enough problems, these bugs may push me over the edge. I swear some nights it's like "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" down here! There are these flying beetle things down here (little and kinda cute, whatever they are) that fall through the ceiling tiles (some are solid but a few have all these little open squares in them) and hit the floor with a smack and then go running off. This is the first year I've seen these critters.

Dex,

"Wild Kingdom?" I'm trying to find a show you didn't watch!

Tomi,

See, I sometimes struggle with the killing of spiders, and I often let the little ones roam free and always pick up bugs and put them outside. HOWEVER.......................I would never sleep again knowing that these types of massive spiders were in my house. Death it was. That is, after I regained the ability to move after seeing them and being paralyzed with fear. I'm telling you, these were some sort of mutant New Jersey farm spiders! Two of the were black and fat and looked and felt rubbery (under the can of dog food I squashed them with.) After I picked up the can, no lie, they PUFFED BACK UP!!! Just sprang back up! Must have been dead, but whatever they were made out of was nothing like I had seen before. I did have a massive one in an apartment on the beach I lived in while I was at college, that was either some weird beach dune living spider or it came off a new floor plant I had gotten and rode around in the car with me for a total of around 2 hours. That night I saw it on the floor near the plant. It had a roundish body that was brown with black stripes! Stripes! What is it about spiders? All the legs? I know that if someone I knew had a tarantula or something I could hold it, just like a pet snake. But even with snakes, I couldn't sleep in the same house, even if it was locked in a cage at night. Just don't want to wake up with it in bed with me, no matter how little it is.Those things will never be sleeping in my house.
