We added a privacy policy compliance consent form for all members in order to comply with the EU's GDPR regulations. Learn more here:

What is GDPR, the EU’s new data protection law? - GDPR.eu

Your consent just means that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy (which is something you should've done anyway, but in all honesty, most people do not).

Doc John, would it be possible to include this explanation on the page with the consent? I joined PC so long ago I don't remember if I read the policy then or not. Gotta say when I tried to access the forums today and could only get as far as a page where I had to agree to the policy to enter I was suspicious. I was concerned the site had been hacked or something else nefarious.

I read the policy and, with trepidation, clicked that I read it. I half expected to be directed to some questionable website.

I am not normally paranoid, but am very careful when online. I doubt I am the only member to be freaked by this. Is there a way to give members a heads up? I was only able to access your explanation here after agreeing to the policy.

Perhaps we could have been warned this was coming Doc. Assuming notifying us was possible. Alarmed the hell out of me. What with cyber-criminality peaking these days and all. Not all here are particularly tech-community savvy.

Edit. Thanks for the explanation. I was pretty worried. For a while after signing that thing the site said I didn't have permission to post anywhere.

I agree. One could not go any farther without checking the box, even to view this thread in the forum. Sort of a Catch 22.

I'm certainly not tech-savvy, with the tech used these days. I agree about cyber criminals. They are getting smarter all the time, knowing how to appear legit so someone clicks on a link or checks a box.

I don't know where the explanation is now located but I guess I'll come across it sooner or later.

Hmmm...Is it just me or is everybody experiencing difficulty with timing out while trying to post? Thought all was running ok but apparently not. Is it related to this privacy policy sign-in? Had no problem with until I signed my consent. Page comes up telling me it took too long reach etc etc.... Happened 4 or 5 times in last hour or so.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Is there a link to it where those of us who had to tick the box without reading anything, due to tech issues (and in my case, probably being stupid) can access it?

I've lost contact with the site mid posting. Not sure what's up with that.

Just thought: now that we have ticked the box, will it come back at any point in the future to make us re tick it?

Some sites do every now and again with ticky box things so i thought i better find out, for all of us here

No, you're not. I had trouble editing a post, it got hung up and refreshing didn't work. It then said "This site can't be reached". I closed the tab and opened again, still signed in.

I've signed in a few times now and it appears to be not needed. A one time thing maybe.
